Campaign Evolved may have just teased the Halo 2 Remake

This article contains SPOILERS for Halo: Campaign Evolveds final and secret cutscenes.

Those who have already struck Halo: Campaign Evolved during its early access period has shared what appears to be a tease that the developer is working on Halo 2 redo the next one. In traditional franchise fashion, Halo: Campaign Evolved features a secret final cutscene for those who complete all missions on Legendary difficulty, and this one appears to be setting up a remake of the beloved Sci-Fi sequel from 2004.

Quite a few Halo games have featured secret cutscenes for those who complete their campaigns on legendary difficulty. These have varied from gag endings, such as the one in Halo: Combat Evolved which sees Sgt. Johnson hugs an elite as the Halo ring inflates around them, to sequel tease, sort of Halo infinites Atriox's secret ending, to lore expansions that Halo 3: ODSTs legendary movie that has Johnson teaming up with the rescued Huragok to gain access to the Covenant Battle Network.

Halo: Campaign Evolved's Secret Ending teases a Halo 2 remake

To complete all 10 missions of Halo: Campaign Evolveds main story on Legendary will reward players with two special cutscenes that play right at the end of the game. The first of these is a traditionally tongue-in-cheek film revolving around fan-favorite character Sergeant Avery Johnson. The secret cutscene begins with Sgt. Johnson watches Halo: Combat Evolveds secret legendary footage on a datapad, commenting that “Those were the days.” The camera then pans out to reveal Johnson lounging on the wreckage of a crashed warthog, lying on one of the Halo ring's scenic beaches.

After presenting some shots of the idyllic locale, the camera pans to the Halo ring stretching far into the sky, and a large explosion can be seen halfway up the array. Johnson leans forward, lowers his orange shades and begins to utter an expletive as a UNSC Pelican dropship flies overhead. Johnson utters the line “Well, that's my cue” as he stands up. Johnson walks towards Pelican, but stops in his tracks, looks straight into the camera and says “See you in the sequel”, followed by the camera dramatically cutting to black.

The second secret cutscene i Halo: Campaign Evolved opens on 343 Guilty Spark flying through space, presumably having escaped the destruction of the Halo Array. The camera follows Guilty Spark's flight towards an orange planet and shows the Forerunner Monitor approaching a high-tech structure suspended in mid-air. This appears to be the threshold of the planet, and the structure looks very similar to the gas mining facility located there, which players explore as The Arbiter in Halo 2s campaign.

While a remake of Halo 2 haven't been confirmed by Halo Studios or Microsoft, these two secret cutscenes both point to the possibility of getting one in the near future, with the first being a tongue-in-cheek tease and the second being a direct lore tie-in. Of course, these cutscenes could also simply be there to bridge the gap between Halo: Campaign Evolved and Halo 2: Anniversaryalthough a report from Rebs Gaming in May claimed that remakes of Halo 2 and 3 is under development at Halo Studios.
