Nintendo Switch 2 Has 5 Big Games Coming In August 2026, But There's A Catch

Nintendo Switch 2 gamers have at least five major new games to look forward to in August 2026, even if the lineup consists entirely of ports of older games. The original Nintendo Switch wasn't exactly known for being a powerful console, so now publishers are playing catch-up with the Switch 2 and bringing their PS5 and Xbox games to Nintendo's newest platform.

The Switch 2's launch lineup included several ports of well-established games, with perhaps the most notable Cyberpunk 2077. Ports have continued to be a big part of the Switch 2's identity, with five big ones all set to release in August 2026. Gamers who have already played these titles may not be too excited about the Switch 2's August 2026 lineup, but those new to these releases or simply want them on the go should mark their calendars accordingly.

The five big new Switch 2 games releasing in August 2026 are Final Fantasy 14 on August 4, Lies of P: Complete Edition on August 6, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on August 11, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 on August 27 and The Ring of Fire: Tarnished Edition on August 28. These are all games that are readily available to play on other consoles (Master Collection Vol. 2 is a new release, but its content is playable elsewhere), there's no denying that they're all heavy hitters in their own right.

Final Fantasy 14for example, is one of the most popular MMORPGs in the world. Lies of P: Complete Editionat the same time, combines the critically acclaimed Soulslike's base game and its DLC to offer Switch 2 owners a rich experience right away. Oblivion remastered is the classic Oblivion with updated graphics, and it will even ship fully on its Switch 2 cartridge – no game key cards. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 marks the first time it Metal Gear Solid 4 has escaped the PS3 jail and finally, The Ring of Fire: Tarnished Edition has new content for fans to enjoy in addition to bringing the incredible base game and its award-winning expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, as portable experiences.

Nintendo itself usually sticks to a pace of releasing an average of one first-party game per month, but that's not happening in August. Instead, fans can watch Pokopia's Bubbly Basin DLC as Nintendo's August 2026 release. The Bubby Basin DLC features a brand new underwater city for players to explore. It will coincide with the release of a free update that provides Pokopia players the Dive ability, allowing them to explore underwater.

While August 2026 is port-heavy when it comes to new Switch 2 releases, there are plenty of big new games coming in the coming months. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave released in September, while Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is scheduled to launch in October.
