The biggest games will be released in September 2026

Everyone already knows how many games avoid getting their launch in late 2026 when Grand Theft Auto releases in November, and because of this desire to avoid conflicting launch windows, September 2026 is already becoming one for the video game history books.

Between several triple-A titles we've all been waiting for, some long-awaited indies finally coming our way, and games spread across all kinds of genres, the September 2026 game launch calendar is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy playing before GTA comes and consumes our holiday seasons.

The Blood Of Dawnwalker

People have been waiting on the edge of their seats for The Blood of Dawnwalker to finally launch after its January 2025 announcement, and the debut kicks off what could be a busy September for the ARPG hit.

Inspired by traditional board games, you'll spend your time in The Blood of Dawnwalker shaping the world as you see fit over the course of your character's 30 days to achieve their goals. You choose which quests to accept and how to deal with the people who give them, all of which contribute to the world you create.

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword

The Onimusha games were absolute classics of the 2000s, and were about to see the first release for the series in two full decades when Onimusha: Way of the Sword is released to start September 2026 off on a strong footing. If you're looking to sink your teeth into a game that month, this is a great choice!

This dark fantasy iteration of Edo period Kyoto sees your main character (who was based on a popular Japanese actor who had his heyday in Japan in the 1950s) mastering his sword to fend off both human and supernatural enemies.

Halloween

If you're a fan of classic horror games, September is probably the beginning of when you play them the most, leading into the creepy feeling that comes with autumn. Halloween is a staple in that regard, and this season you have a whole new way to play with horror icon Michael Myers.

Michael will pursue a group of civilians trying to save the neighborhood from his reign of terror, and the game's multiplayer mode lets your friends take on the role of said civilians in something of a Dead By Daylight-esque stealth survival horror.

Valheim

If a procedurally generated iteration of Scandinavia sounds like your kind of setting, then you've probably already got Valheim on your radar, with this Viking culture title sure to please. It's been on PC for a while now in early access, but that period ends with the full release on September 9, 2026.

Valheim sees you and up to nine friends take on this mysterious Nordic world. It requires creative, adaptive use of weapons to explore, but your goal is to build an impressive township and learn to survive.

Marvel's Wolverine

Marvel has had a busy couple of years when it comes to their triple-A game releases, and Marvel's Wolverine is the next in a great line of comic book heroes. But not only was the game inspired by the comics, it draws inspiration from every iteration of Wolverine we've seen in media since his debut.

A few years after Wolverine left Team X in the previous game, he rejoins them in this title to seek information about other genetic mutants like himself who have been abducted to join a private militia.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds

We still have plenty of RuneScape games, between the modern version and the beloved classic iteration, but RuneScape: Dragonwilds is something a little different, bringing a modern touch and a more direct multiplayer element to the classic open world survival title.

You've got plenty of familiar RuneScape flair to love – build skills to unlock new abilities with them, learn both melee and magic for use in battle, explore the vast continent of Ashenfall and so much more as the game launches amidst the busy September 2026 launch schedule.

Dune: Awakening

If you're a PC gamer, you probably already had fun with Dune: Awakening when it launched for PC in June 2025, but console players are now about to get the chance to join the terrifying desert adventure when the game launches for consoles on September 22nd.

The game explores what would have happened if Paul Atreides was never born, and the sister born in his place prevents the canonical events of the novel from ever taking place. You'll be playing to try and find the missing Fremen instead of following the actual events of the Dune universe.

Control resonant

If you were a big fan of Control, 2019's hit third-person shooter game that took the gaming world by storm, then you're probably pretty excited to find out that a direct sequel is coming this September!

Instead of the shooting elements iconic to the original title, Control Resonant will follow Dylan Faden from the first title as he attempts to assist the Federal Bureau of Control as they attempt to regain control of a device that has escaped from their facility and is wreaking havoc in New York City.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Launching on the same day as Control Resonant is an even scarier game for those horror fanatics looking to get the scary season of the year off to a strong start, and that's Silent Hill: Townfall, a standalone spinoff title from the iconic series of horror games.

This first-person horror game will have you using a clever combination of stealth to avoid fighting the monsters whenever possible, but you'll have plenty of makeshift melee weapon options to fend them off should they happen to notice your presence. Find out why your character is connected to this creepy town and piece together the mystery.

Minecraft Dungeons 2

Anyone who loves sandbox games has heard of Minecraft before, and if you're looking for something a little more linear with a story to follow and enemies to hack apart, then Minecraft Dungeons is probably already on your radar. Finally, however, September 2026 ends with the launch of the sequel.

The story in Minecraft Dungeons 2 will pick up right where you last left off in the first game to continue exploring the various dungeons to get to the bottom of things.
