Games like Survive and Deadly business have become some of the most popular games to come out of the indie scene, with others like Doki Doki Literature Club pushing the boundaries of horror. Kinetic Games' Phasmophobia was an equally successful co-op horror game at launch, taking inspiration from real-life paranormal investigators with players able to team up with friends to investigate haunted locations. Now a brand new indie horror game has the unique inclusion of some popular movies in the game.
Where Dolls Hang is a spooky horror game with real movies
Indie developer Steelkrill Studios' latest game, Where dolls hangbrings players into an unsettling island environment with plenty to discover. The game is about a paranormal investigator who visits an island with creepy dolls hanging in its forests, drawn by mysterious bodies that wash ashore. The game tasks players with finding clues across the island and traversing the dense forests and swamps using a grid-based inventory system, crafting and more. Players can also find VHS tapes scattered throughout the game that contain real-life horror movies, allowing fans to watch movies such as Night of the Living Dead inside the game. Where dolls hang is slated for release at an unconfirmed date in 2026.

Where dolls hang looks to include plenty of elements from some of gaming's most popular horror franchises. The inventory management system is likely inspired by Resident Evil franchise, which similarly limits the items players can carry. Players are tasked with crafting their own items and tools to progress in Where dolls hangwith recipes found throughout the island giving access to improved weapons and resources. The game's Steam page also features features such as a day and night cycle and weather, which both affect the visibility and aggressiveness of Where dolls hangs enemies.
The introduction of real horror movies in Where dolls hang is not the first time players have been able to watch feature films in games.
