Xbox has reportedly laid off 136 employees at id Software. This would account for just under 75 percent of the workforce, which in December was reported to consist of 185 workers.

This figure comes from Game Developer, citing data from the Texas Workforce Commission. These records reveal that parent company ZeniMax has laid off a total of 158 employees in Texas, 22 of which came from Bethesda Game Studios Austin and 136 from id Software. If these numbers are accurate, that leaves the studio almost completely gutted, leaving its future uncertain.

Positive reviews and millions of players couldn't save id software from Xbox's layoffs

It was initially reported that 50 percent of id Software had been laid off, which equates to about 90 layoffs. Now, with the number even higher, it seems incredibly unlikely that id Software will continue as it was, with some theorizing that it will become a support studio for other projects.
