How to farm Pokemon in Cobblemon

Minecraft's Cobblemon mod does not offer the ability to breed Pokemon and obtain eggs by default, but players can install the Cobbreeding mod or the Daycare+ mod to enable the in-game breeding mechanic.

Both mods have similar mechanics and rely on the grazing block as a breeding center, but since Cobbreeding is more popular and used in more modpacks, we'll use it as a reference for this guide.

With the Cobbreeding mod installed, you should be able to start breeding compatible Pokemon by placing them together in a bait block. Over time, these Pokemon will spawn eggs, which you must then carry with you in your inventory for a period of time before they hatch into baby Pokemon.

Here is a step-by-step process of how this works.

  1. Build one Pasture and place it on the ground, with at least one empty block behind it.

  2. Interact with the bait block by right-clicking and enabling the egg icon in the top right (it will be disabled by default).

  3. Place two Pokémon that share an egg group and are of the opposite gender inside.

  4. Within 6-12 minutes, the two Pokemon will spawn, and an egg will be found inside the bait block (accessible from the back).

If Pokemon placed in a grazing block for breeding rise a certain distance from the block, they will automatically be recalled to the computer. To prevent this from happening, put a fence around the pasture.

Ditto can be used as a substitute for both parents in breeding. However, Ditto cannot reproduce with itself, meaning the only way to get Ditto is to either catch it in the wild or get it from a trade. Also, genderless Pokemon like Golurk and Rotom can only breed with Ditto.

Pokemon in the Undiscovered Eggs group (no eggs were discovered) cannot hatch at all. This category consists mostly of baby Pokémon, legendaries, Paradox Pokémon, and outliers like Silvally and Gholdengo.

How to hatch eggs in Cobblemon

To hatch an egg you must have it in your inventory for exactly 10 minutes (real time). There is a timer in an egg's item description that shows how much time you have left before it hatches. If you store the egg, the timer pauses. It will only resume when placed back into your inventory.

To increase the rate at which eggs hatch, catch one Pokemon with Flame Body, Magma Armor or Steam Engine abilities and place them in your party while the egg is in your inventory. This will speed up the egg timer by 2x, cutting the time required in half.

How to get eggs fast in Cobblemon

The rate at which eggs spawn is directly proportional to Minecrafts tick speed. With the default speed (20 ticks per second) you can get an egg every 6.6-11.6 minutes. The only way to get eggs faster is to either increase the tick speed of the game or to change the speed at which eggs spawn by editing the Cobbreeding mod itself.

  • To increase tick speed: Type /tick rate in commands.
  • How to increase spawn rate of eggs in co-breeding: Open .minecraft/config/cobbreeding/main.json in a text editor and change “minBreedingTimeInTick”: 8000 and “maxBreedingTimeInTick”: 14000 to a lower value.

When I set “minBreedingTimeInTick”: 100 and “maxBreedingTimeInTick”: 200, I got an egg basically every two seconds. Obviously, this is far too fast and game-breaking, and you'll be better served setting this somewhere between 4000 and 5000.
