Xbox CEO wants more than one billion daily users

Xbox is in a very, very tough state right now, having gone through a massive wave of layoffs and the fire sales of several game studios like Ninja Theory and Undead Labs. It has basically shed all of its smaller studios and channeled investment into its bigger titles like Fallout, Halo and Wolfenstein. Even after all this, its future is uncertain.

We already have reports that Xbox's next console – Project Helix – is unlikely to include a disc drive, and memory shortages are driving prices so high that the PS6 and Project Helix will almost certainly cost at least $1,000 at launch. It's getting harder and harder to justify owning an Xbox, but CEO Asha Sharma still has big ambitions for the company's future.

Asha Sharma wants Xbox to have one billion daily users

Sharma broke the bad news on Twitter earlier today, detailing how the Xbox business would move forward and the steps the company is taking to right the ship, but she also took time to outline how much faith she has in the Xbox ecosystem as a whole. In fact, she may have a little too much faith, as Sharma somehow believes that Xbox has the ability to entertain “more than a billion people every day.”

Xbox is reportedly testing a feature that will allow you to digitize your physical games

Xbox is reportedly trying to make sure your physical collections matter in the impending all-digital era.

I want XBOX to be one of the few companies that entertains more than a billion people every day and empowers everyone to create and connect,” says Sharman. “I know we can achieve this goal. XBOX has many of the most beloved franchises in entertainment history, talented studios around the world, and we will return to growth in 2027.

To put that into perspective, Xbox only managed to sell 84 million Xbox 360 consoles, which was arguably the company's most successful generation. For Sharma's dream to come true, Xbox would need to return to its golden age and then find 916 million people to suck into its ecosystem. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but with consoles getting more expensive, 100 million might be a better target.
