Demon Slayer: 8 Strongest Non-Swordsmen, Ranked

Demon Slayer is populated with skilled swordsmen who use breathing styles of all kinds. Most of them, including Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, use Nichirin Swords that can kill flesh-eating demons to death, while one of Muzan's minions, Kokushibo, uses a warped Nichirin Sword made from his flesh and blood.

Demon Slayer: The 3 characters who created their own breath form

Only a handful of characters in Demon Slayer have been able to create their own breathing forms. Who are they?

However, not all Demon Slayer characters rely on swords in combat. There are non-swordsmen who also sit at the top of the power hierarchy with other unconventional weapons. While swords dominate the battlefield in Demon Slayerthese formidable characters prove that guns, cleavers, clubs and axes can be just as deadly.

Even without the ability to use breathing styles, Genya Shinazugawa successfully becomes a demon slayer who uses a double barreled shotgun loaded with Nichirin bullets to fight demons to no end. Under Gyomei's watch, Genya grew into a resourceful demon slayer who cannot be satisfied unless he shoots demons to death, not only to avenge his family but also to prove his worth.

In addition to Genya Shinazugawa's shooting skills, he is a physically powerful and highly durable fighter, known for his habit of consuming demon flesh. As a result, he gained regenerative abilities and demon-like strength even without turning into a full-blown demon.

Uzui Tengen turns the Dual Cleavers into a deadly symphony

Tengen Uzui is more than just looks, charisma and style. As the flashiest Hashira, it's easy to underestimate him, especially since characters known for showmanship are often assumed to be of average strength in anime – but that couldn't be further from the truth here. In reality, Tengen Uzui defies expectations.

As Sound Hashira, Tengen ranks among the fastest fighters in Demon Slayercapable of fading in and out of his opponent's vision. Instead of using traditional katanas in battle, Uzui Tengen prefers to use twin cleavers, which he wields with extreme speed and precision. Additionally, he wields a variety of shinobi tools, including kunai and explosive beads, a clear nod to his ninja heritage.

Gyokko uses porcelain vases as deadly weapons

Hantengu's partner in the Swordsmith Village raid, Gyokko has a unique way of killing his enemies on the battlefield. Although he also uses his fists in battle and can transform people into grotesque fish-like creatures, he primarily relies on his grotesque porcelain pots and vases to gradually and methodically eliminate his enemies.

With his creations, Gyokko can move from one pot to another. He can even trap his victims in these pots, regardless of size, compressing them until their bones are crushed and they eventually die. Like Hantengu, Gyokko is an incredibly unpredictable opponent who relies on tricks and other forms of manipulation to achieve his goals.

Gyomei Himejima's chain weapons are built for heavy damage

Gyomei Himejima does not play in active combat. He swings his club and ax with all his might, punishing some of the most powerful demons, including Muzan Kibutsuji, while reciting his traditional Buddhist chant, “Namu Amida Butsu” (“I take refuge in the Buddha”). His training regimen is also not for the faint of heart, as even the likes of Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu struggled to make it.

As the strongest Hashira, Stone Hashira serves as one of the Demon Slayer Corps' last lines of defense against the Upper Moons and Muzan. Gyomei's power level is probably equal to two or three mid to low upper moons, making him a nightmare opponent for most demons.

Hantengu's split forms each use unique armaments

During the Swordsmith Village Arc, Hantengu reveals several distinct forms, each with their own personality, abilities, and even weapons. From Sekido, which uses a khakkhara-like staff that channels devastating lightning attacks, to Karaku, which uses a giant hand fan to unleash powerful gusts of wind, and the Zohakuten, which summons destructive tree rakes by beating the drums on its back, Hantengu is a very versatile opponent whose unique fighting form makes for a fighting form.

Taking down the Hantengu in Swordsmith Village required the combined strength of Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, and even Love Hashira. If it weren't for Tanjiro applying the basic principles of Thunder Breathing that Zenitsu had taught him, Hantengu would likely have survived the encounter.

3

Akaza transforms fists and feet into deadly weapons

Like Muzan Kibutsuji, Akaza, the recently deceased Upper Rank Three, needs no weapon in active combat. He simply relies on his fists and feet to blow holes in his opponent's body, overwhelming them with brute force, speed, regeneration and body manipulation to turn melee combat into a relentless barrage of Soryu-based martial arts attacks.

Akaza is a natural born martial artist, and when paired with his Blood Demon Art, Destructive Death, he becomes highly skilled at reading his opponents and quickly analyzing their strengths and weaknesses in battle. Even when Tanjiro and Giyu fought together, they still struggled to bring down Akaza during the Infinity Castle Arc.

Doma's gold-plated fans are more dangerous than swords

Doma has enjoyed Japanese war fans in battle. Instead of using his fists like Akaza or a crooked katana like Kokushibo, Doma prefers to use gold-plated fans with beautiful lotus patterns perfect for his blood demon arts. With his deadly fans, he can slash his opponents in rapid succession while unleashing deadly ice shards that cover the battlefield for the long haul.

As the demon occupying the top two, Doma is an extremely high-level opponent, ranked just below Kokushibo, who fought against four powerful demon slayers in the final stage of the Infinity Castle Arc. And speaking of Infinity Castle, this is where Doma ruthlessly devoured the bug Hashira without breaking a sweat.

Muzan Kibutsuji is a living weapon

The last villain standing against Tanjiro and the surviving demon slayers, Muzan Kibutsuji doesn't need a sword or fixed weapon to wreak havoc on his opponents. He simply uses every part of his body to either create weapons made from his flesh and blood, treating his near-immortal body as a flexible weapon system.

The only way to permanently rest Muzan Kibutsuji is to expose him to direct sunlight. Otherwise, Muzan's body will continue to regenerate regardless of how much damage he takes, making him a difficult final villain to deal with. And just when fans thought he was gone for good, Muzan Kibutsuji could still leave behind the lingering consequences of his existence.
