Obsidian is a rare crafting material i Gothic 1 Remakeand starting with Chapter 4, players must secure at least a couple pieces if they want to craft the strongest melee weapons in the game.
Since the game doesn't hold your hand at all, it's quite complicated to figure out everything related to crafting mats and schematics for weapons. So with this guide we can at least simplify it for players and help them get Obsidian without any problem.

Where to find Obsidian in Gothic 1 Remake
When we think of Obsidian, we obviously relate it to volcanoes, as this gemstone is lava that has cooled down really quickly. And of course in such a realistic game as Gothic 1 Remake, the only logical place to look for it is near a stream of lava.
But the location in question is in an area that can't be accessed until Chapter 3. So, proceed with the main story until you defeat the Minecrawler Queen, then let's head out into Orc territory.
You'll find a lava river in the southeast part of the map, deep in Orc territory. The fastest way to get to this place is to use the road near the Old Camp's north entrance (the main one), then turn left and follow the road until you pass the guards. It's the same route we can take to pick up some Petrified Wood, only players will need it turn right when they see the lava flow.
The exact location is guarded by razors, Orc Dogs and some Orc Warriorsbut if players play their cards right, they only need to eliminate a couple of razors to pick up the Obsidian.
Stay close to the wall and face the lava flow, then at the point where the lava hits the water there will be a small black stone wall, and at the base of it, three pieces of obsidian lying on the floor. Pick them up.
Players can use the Obsidian Shards they just picked up to create a powerful weapon called Obsidian swordwhich also requires palladium scraps and petrified wood for the handle and blade.
Obsidian can also be found scattered around the chests in Orc territory, and there are a few more shards that can be found at the bottom of the lake where the lava hits the water.
As a rule of thumb, look around at the places where there is lavabecause material i Gothic 1 Remake Always spawns in the same location in each playthrough. You just need to pay attention to your surroundings and look for the environmental clues: A rough patch of black rock sticking out of the rock walls near a river of molten fire.
