How To Beat Rollo And Lila In Ys X: Nordics

During the entire playing of Ys X: The Nordicsyou will hear the name of Rollo very often, making it pretty obvious that he would be the last boss you go up against. Rollo's true identity is quite surprising though, along with the partner who joins him at the end against Adol and Karja.

If you want to see Sandra's come to life in Ys X: Nordics, you'll need to explore around and find different villagers in Carnac.

This won't be the first boss battle where you'll face two boss enemies at once, but it will be much more challenging than the others. You need to do some preparation if you want a chance to win this.

Rollo and Lila first phase guide

Ys X Nordic's Rollo screams in the first phase of the fight against him.

While most boss fights in Ys X: Nordics have tough phases where the enemy gets a couple of new attacks, the phases in the fight against Rollo and Lila are very clearly defined with an intermediate sequence between them. The first phase is when the boss doesn't start with a durability bar, and it goes all the way up until you drop their HP to 20 percent.

Throughout this battle, Rollo and Lila will share an HP bar that you can see at the top, and this bar will lose their HP and Durability when you attack any of them. Here are the attacks you can expect from them in this phase:

Speed attacks	Purple	Throughout the battle, Lila will stay on the edge of the battlefield and constantly make speed attacks at you. These may include some spike-like projectiles that are fired one at a time or a wave on the ground. This wave launches in an arc-shaped pattern. It is recommended to keep an eye on these attacks such as avoiding them can work as a good way to deal high damage.
Slash Attacks	Rollo	During the start of the battle, Rollo usually comes swing your ax at the charactermaking it some easy parries for you. After two slashes, he jumps a little high and slams his hammer into the ground.
Red attack	Rollo	You will also see Rollo jump high in the air with a red aura and fast throw the ground again with a much larger AoE than the normal slash attacks.
Wind attack	Rollo	In this attack, Rollo once again rises into the air with a green aura around his ax and then rushes towards the groundconsistently swings his weapon.
Spin Attack	Rollo	When you are far away from Rollo, he will charge his ax for a moment and then cwatch you while you spin the axe around his body.

Frostbite will be yours best friend for this fight as it can increase your damage output significantly.

The first phase of the battle against Rollo and Lila will already have you on your toes as you will face a constant barrage of attacks. For this fight, it's important to remember that protecting yourself is more important. Focus on building your revenge meter and preventing damage instead of trying to attack all the way and deal low damage.

Rollo And Lila Second Phase Guide

Once you get their collective HP up to around 20 percent, you can trigger a cutscene that results in Rollo getting a mask on his face while Lila gets some shields around her, making it difficult to target her in battle. This change also brings some new attacks while polishing some of the old ones:

Attack name	Enemy	Description
Blue Orb	Purple	As Lila moves across the battlefield, she can sometimes create a large blue orb that moves towards your active character. You can easily parry this orb to get some revenge meter.
Constant attacks	Purple	During the start of this phase, Lila creates a couple of units in the air that constantly firing speed projectiles at your characteressentially serving as a third enemy that you can't attack.
Improved red attack	Rollo	After slamming his hammer into the ground as the normal red attack, Rollo will then launch a speed attack right after with blue ground waves surrounding him. Avoiding this attack triggers a cutscene deal massive damage to the boss.
Rollo's ship	Rollo	From this phase, Rollo can summon an entire ship onto the battlefield that quickly moves in the direction it is facing after a small delay. The best approach to avoid this attack is just move out of the face of the ship.
Grab the attack	Rollo	Sometimes you'll see Rollo's arm glow green as he rushes towards your active character. If he can get hold of you, he will launch yourself into the air and perform a slash which cause major damage.

The second phase is basically an in-battle filler where the game introduces you to a few more of the boss's moves, but the phase ends already when you remove their durability bar. Being aware of your surroundings is important during this as you will hardly have a moment when you are not being attacked.

Rollo and Lila third phase guide

When you remove Rollo and Lila's first durability bar, another cutscene will trigger, and they come full circle get his health with another durability bar at the end of it. This is where the real battle begins as the first two phases were simply to get you used to what to expect. In this phase, Rollo and Lila will go all out.

This not only means faster attacks, but also some new ones you haven't seen yet:

Clone attacks	Rollo	As soon as the final phase starts, Rollo will summon up to four clones around him who run towards you and attack one at a time. You can parry the first of these attacks, but it is recommended to avoid the rest. This is mainly due to Rollo can start performing other attacks as these clones attack you.
Lightning strikes	Purple	When Rollo launches his clones and then most likely a ship at you, Lila will perform a summon attack where you see circles on the ground. When these circles fill up, there will be a lightning strike at the location.
Double attack	Rollo and Lila	After removing their durability bar in this phase, there will be another cutscene followed by a double attack where the two prepare a giant orb and then launch it all over the battlefield. This will first knock you up and then call lightning all around, and that's it important to try to avoid or parry these as much as possible.
Ground wave	Rollo	Sometimes you'll see Rollo slam his fist into the ground, and he'll do damage in one large triangular shape at the front by him soon after that.
Whirlpool Attack	Purple	When the duo gets their second bar of durability in this phase, Lila will create a whirlpool in it in the middle of the battlefield that sucks you inmaking you an easy target.

This is the longest phase of the three, and also the hardest. Up until now you've had an attack from Rollo and Lila each, but now they can both perform multiple attacks at once. Again, the idea is to avoid as many attacks as possible while building Frostbite on your main target for damage.

Stocking up on some is highly recommended healing and removal of paralysis subject of this battle as well.
