Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues to move at a furious pace, with major battles in the new arc officially set on June 18, 2026. Given that the new arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is focused on Jura and Hidari, the return of Naruto and Sasuke is now approaching.
The conclusion of this arc could potentially see Sasuke's return, and Naruto's return is also getting significantly closer. Considering the Seventh Hokage lost some of his powers in Borutoincluding three major Kekkei Genkai, series creators, Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto, are now officially setting up new upgrades for him, including a new Kekkei Genkai, so he can once again compete at the highest level against monstrous threats in Two blue Vortexes. This Kekkei Genkai is the first Hokage's Wood Release.
Naruto Uzumaki lost the boil release, lava release and magnet release in Boruto Chapter 55 5 years ago
In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki gained his greatest power-ups when he faced the Sage of Six Paths in Naruto Chapter 672, released in Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump Issue #20 on April 28, 2014. In this chapter, Naruto was granted immense powers, and given that he already had the chakra of all the tailed beasts at this point, he became related to a pseudo-Tenchuriki. When Naruto returned, he was able to harness all the powers of the tailed beasts, including their Kekkei Genkai.
As such, Naruto Uzumaki at this point had access to three unique Kekkei Genkai, the first of which was Lava Release, which he utilized thanks to Four Tail's Son Goku. Then, as the story continued, Naruto Uzumaki demonstrated the ability to also utilize Magnet Release, which came directly from the chakra of One Tail's Shukaku. By infusing it into his Rasengan, Naruto was able to create powerful Sealing Jutsu. Finally, in the battle against Kaguya Otsutsuki, Naruto used Kokuo's Kekkei Genkai, Boil Release, to greatly increase his powers.

All three Kekkei Genkai were maintained by Naruto Uzumaki during the Boruto era as well, and this was proven in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation Chapter 32, where he fought Delta and used Son Goku's Lava Release again by infusing it into his Rasenshuriken. Unfortunately, in Boruto Chapter 55, which was released in V-Jump Issue #4 on February 20, 2021, Naruto Uzumaki lost access to the power of the Tailed Beasts after Kurama's death. Since then, his connection with all the tailed beasts seems to have been broken, and because of that, he no longer has access to his Kekkei Genkai. As such, Naruto Uzumaki lost all three major Kekkei Genkai that gave him the power immensely in the Boruto series, and this greatly weakened him.

That said, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex will eventually see the return of Naruto Uzumaki, and once that happens, he will have to fight at full capacity again, which is something that all of us fans are eagerly waiting to see. To that end, Boruto creators Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto have lined up a new Kekkei Genkai upgrade for him in the form of Wood Release. To access the Wood Release, Naruto has all the requirements, and he just needs the Author to actually make him use it. Considering that he has lost a significant portion of his powers, now is the time for Naruto Uzumaki to access this ability.

Why Naruto's next Kekkei Genkai must be the First Hokage's wooden release
Wood Release is a unique Kekkei Genkai used by the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju. This Wood Release Kekkei Genkai was incredibly powerful and allowed Hashirama to perform divine feats using wooden structures and forest creation. In fact, with its power, he was able to subdue Kurama and Madara at the same time; such was its power. Wood Release is simply a Kekkei Genkai created with a mixture of Water Release and Earth Release. That said, without having the Kekkei Genkai, it is impossible to combine these two elements.
Hashirama was the only one with this ability in the Naruto series, and all the others that came after him were poor copies that couldn't live up to the mark. That said, it was proven that by taking Hashirama's cells and harnessing the powers of earth and water emanations, one could gain access to wood emanations. In Naruto Chapter 698, released on November 17, 2014, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #49, both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha lost their dominant arms in battle. While Sasuke chose not to replace his arm, Naruto Uzumaki received a prosthetic made with cells from Hashirama Senju. With it Naruto got a huge boost to his already strong recovery rate and at the same time the potential to unlock Wood Release as well.

In the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki also managed to learn various nature transformations through Six Path Sage Mode. As an adult, Naruto is able to utilize all five nature transformations, meaning that both wood emanation and water emanation are available to him. By combining it with the Hashirama cells he received officially in Naruto Chapter 699, it has now been officially confirmed that Naruto has all the prerequisites required to be able to utilize Wood Release. As such, when he returned inside Boruto: Two Blue Vortexwhich should follow the current arc focusing on Jura and Hidari, Naruto should be able to use the power of Wood Release to further increase his skill and strength.

When Naruto lost Kurama, he lost access to his Six Paths Powers with it. As such, the strongest power he can still use is Sage Mode. In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 64, which was released on November 20, 2021, it was officially confirmed that Naruto Uzumaki's Sage Mode had been upgraded. With the power of this Sage Mode, Naruto should be able to fight some Otsutsuki level ninjas, although it will be impossible for him to beat them. Just like Sasuke Uchiha got a significant boost during the time jump in BorutoNaruto will also get a massive upgrade, as these two must be equal at all times. This could come through the Wood Release that he finally learns to harness after his return, or it could be a significant buff to his overall powers, as was the case with Sasuke. In either case, Naruto should be strong enough to rule as Konoha's Hokage, meaning it is expected of him to be strong enough to fight the threats of Otsutsuki and Shinju upon his return.
