One Piece is officially lining up a Devil Fruit that can defeat Nerona Imu

In its 29 years of serialization, One Piece has seen the rise and fall of several powerful villains; but none would compare to the official unveiling of Nerona Imu i One Piece Chapter 1179 on April 5 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19. This chapter marked the descent of the official King of the World onto the Land of Giants, setting him up as the final antagonist for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates to face in Elbaf.

In the subsequent chapters, right up to One Piece Chapter 1183, which officially marked the beginning of the Esperia Kingdom flashback on May 25, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #26, Nerona Imu's immense strength was heavily shown by the author. It's pretty clear at this point that Imu is virtually impossible to overpower in battle. That said, One Piece has already officially lined up a Devil Fruit with the ability to defeat the world's Devil God. This Devil Fruit is none other than the strongest Logia to ever exist and the most dangerous ability in the world, Yami Yami no Mi, which was consumed by none other than Blackbeard Marshall D. Teach, a remnant of the Davy Clan.

Nerona Imu's Akuma no Mi ability makes it impossible to overwhelm him in a battle

One Piece Officially released on April 5, 2026, Chapter 1179 marked the introduction of the most overwhelmingly powerful Devil Fruit in the series, in the form of Akuma no Mi. Akuma no Mi belongs to the King of the World, Nerona Imu, and is a Devil Fruit that predates all others found in the One Piece world. This Devil Fruit is quite special, as the name suggests. While each Devil Fruit has a unique name attached to the power it holds, Imu's Devil Fruit functions on such a scale that it is called “The Devil's Fruit”, making it the ultimate power to wield in the world of One Piece.

In One Piece chapter 1180, which was officially revealed in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue #21 on April 10, 2026, Eiichiro Oda showed a glimpse of Nerona Imu's powers, and needless to say, they were overwhelming. Imu's powers allow him to transform into the Devil God in the One Piece world. He receives a unique transformation that gives him brown skin, two giant horns, black wings, and overwhelming strength, as well as speed. On top of all this, he has the ability to make demonic pacts with individuals or even force certain contracts upon them, making them his submissive slave soldiers.

Most notably, Nerona Imu also has the power of Omen or Maki, which he officially calls his military power. This power exists within everyone, and Imu can manipulate it and use it for both offensive and defensive purposes, similar to how Haki is used by many characters in the world of One Piece.

All of these abilities make Imu overwhelmingly powerful, and this was quite evident when he took down both Zoro and Sanji effortlessly in Chapter 1180. In the subsequent Chapter 1181, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #22-23 on April 27, 2026, Nerona revealed her superior Lokiwmu, Achelm I, Nerona. Prince, who will have the power to destroy the entire world. Despite Loki's incredible Nidhoggr power, Imu easily overwhelmed him in battle and displayed her power as the absolute strongest in the entire world. In fact, this power is so strong that Blackbeard canonically claims to be the absolute strongest in the world with this ability.

Blackbeard's fruit, despite being a Logia type, works quite differently from other Logias. While normal Logia Devil Fruits grant the user intangibility and allow them to transform into the element itself, the Yami Yami no Mi power of darkness grants manipulation, but does not grant intangibility. Blackbeard cannot become darkness, nor can it become immaterial. He can only manipulate the power of darkness in different ways.

The biggest advantage of this Devil Fruit is the infinite gravity it provides, according to Blackbeard himself. With this gravity, he can absorb everything in the world. This includes the light itself. Everything in his vicinity can and will be targeted due to the immense power of the black holes that he can produce with the power of his fruit. More importantly, Blackbeard's Devil Fruit power can absorb the power of the devil himself. The terminology used by Eiichiro Oda in the One Piece Chapter 441 is very important to note. While some mistranslations claim that Blackbeard can absorb the power of Devil Fruits, Oda was quite specific in mentioning “the power of the devil” instead. From One Piece Chapter 1179, we know that The Devil of the One Piece world is none other than Nerona Imu. In other words, Blackbeard's Yami Yami no Mi stands as a fierce counter to the Devil of the One Piece world, Nerona Imu, and can also absorb his ability.

Blackbeard and The Davy Clan are Imu's greatest weakness

Just as Monkey D. Luffy stands tall as the Sun God Nika and the successor to Joy Boy in modern times, Blackbeard is the successor to Davy D. Jones of the Void Century and one of Imus' greatest weaknesses. IN One Piece chapter 1164, which was officially released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #49 on November 3, 2025, Eiichiro Oda officially confirmed that two of the individuals that Imu feared the most were Joy Boy and Davy Jones. Both have resurfaced in the world now through Luffy and Blackbeard respectively. As it stands, Blackbeard is Imu's greatest weakness.

Using the power of Yami Yami no Mi, Blackbeard is able to remove all of Imu's powers, meaning he can no longer retain his devil form or use the power of Omen when in his vicinity. What's more, Blackbeard also has the power of Gura Gura no Mi, which is the strongest Paramecia offensive-type Devil Fruit that can cause tremors from land, sea, and air, and even infuse it into weapons. Once Imu's abilities are interrupted with Yami Yami no Mi, Blackbeard can then land devastatingly powerful blows using the Gura Gura no Mi, which is officially comparable to an ancient weapon in its own right. This deadly combination could potentially go on to defeat Imu, making Blackbeard a deadly powerful foe for the King of the World in the final saga of One Piece. A confrontation between Nerona Imu and Blackbeard is highly likely, and we absolutely cannot wait to see how it unfolds.
