While Helldivers 2 was a really massive game in the first year of its life, it has struggled a bit to keep players invested long-term. Other great video games pulling players away is a factor that every successful title has to deal with, although some controversial balancing decisions and content droughts have also contributed to many Helldivers 2 the fans move on. If you're one of the players who have stepped away from Super Earth, or are considering doing so, a new co-op PvE game to play with your friends is definitely a must. Steampp Warden of Avalon might just be that game, although it's important to note how different its approach is from Arrowhead's big hit.
While there are other games with Miscellaneous vibes on steam, Warden of Avalon stands out because it trades the expected sci-fi setting for something more akin to Kingdom Come. Obviously, there is very little in common between a slowly immersive RPG and the hectic combat of Miscellaneousthus Warden of Avalon certainly has a larger part of Miscellaneous in its DNA yet Kingdom Come. Becoming a knight alongside your friends to defeat demonic enemies in a twisted version of Camelot is a bold concept that a wide range of players can enjoy, with its camera perspective and enemies that even allow Diablo fans to get in on the hype.

Wardens of Avalon merges Helldivers Co-Op Freedom with Kingdom Come's Sense of Duty
While Warden of AvalonThe top-down camera perspective makes it look like the original Miscellaneous more so than its sequel from a visual standpoint, Freedom will undoubtedly feel familiar to fans of the newer entry. About like Helldivers 2 players can choose from a wide variety of strategies and weapons to shake up their strategies for battle, Wardens of Avalon pushes you to experiment. Instead of a class structure like other games, you are free to change your build depending on what certain situations require. While ducking and parrying are always present, you can play with things like risk/reward corruption stats while changing your weapons and armor by using seals that “better suit your playstyle.”
The entirety of Warden of Avalon will be playable solo, but it will surely also be more fun in four-player co-op, with players forming their own order of knights alongside their friends. While this version of a clan system may just be for show, the game goes out of its way to represent a knight's duty, which is where Kingdom Come parallels are most noticeable. Sure, the moment-to-moment gameplay will have players slashing through demons just like they would in Diabloor see the screen covered in so much chaos it looks like an Orbital Laser was just called in, but it's the quieter moments between missions that can make the game feel special.
As you remove the threat from Camelot's lands, you gather resources that can then be used to restore the kingdom. You will rebuild structures piece by piece, and as the presence of corruption begins to fade, new opportunities will be unlocked. This includes quests, but more importantly, different vendors that offer different ways to upgrade your Twilight Knight. Apothecaries, Druids, Blacksmiths, and Herbalists are just four of the potential vendors listed, and unlocking access to them by bringing honor back to a ruined kingdom should feel immensely satisfying. While Miscellaneous fans will have a blast fighting enemy groups alongside their friends, Kingdom Come Revelers will appreciate being part of the rebuilding process.

Wardens of Avalon's Bosses are the icing on the cake
While it remains to be seen how mechanically complex the boss battles in this medieval Steam game are, narratively they have a ton of potential. Since the Knights of the Round Table are corrupt just like the rest of Camelot, it can be assumed that they will serve as the main bosses of the game. For fans of King Arthur lore, battling a corrupted version of the legendary figure will undoubtedly be memorable. A fight against a demonic Merlin could also be an ideal final boss, as he would have access to a wide range of magic that could allow for tons of attacks. With so much going for it, Warden of Avalon is a game worth keeping an eye on as 2027 approaches.
