June 4 marks the end of an era for Call of Duty: Warzone

Given the massive install bases of the Xbox One and (especially) the PlayStation 4, not to mention the fact that COVID is derailing the start of the current console generation, it's no surprise that they've been relevant for nearly 13 years. Great games have continued to be released and supported on PS4 and Xbox One despite their age, but one of the biggest followers of the trend across generations, Call of Dutychanges course. With the launch of Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026, players can say goodbye to the latest generation versions of premium Cod titles. And, unfortunately for War zone fans, this means they can also say goodbye to their favorite Battle Royale title.

It has been confirmed via Activision Support that once Modern Warfare 4 is integrated with Call of Duty: Warzonethe game will no longer be supported on the latest generation of hardware. This is devastating for those who either can't afford a newer console or see no reason to jump, as their hand is essentially forced. Casual players who only spend their time in free-to-play games like Call of Duty: Warzone have to get a newer console to keep playing or they have to find a new game to replace it. Of course, War zone fans should be prepared for the end, and thankfully June 4th will only be a prelude to the actual shutdown later in 2026.

Even though PS4 and Xbox One are still included MW4the new Call of Duty will be released on Nintendo Switch 2.

Millions of players will soon be unable to play Call of Duty: Warzone, one of the most popular Battle Royales in the world.

Call of Duty: Warzones full overview of the last generation suspension is as follows:

June 4, 2026: No new downloads of Call of Duty: Warzone will be allowed on PS4 and Xbox One.
June 25, 2026: The game store for Call of Duty: Warzone will be removed.
November 2026: Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be playable on PS4 and Xbox One, at the same time Season 1 launches.

So while dedicated War zone fans on older consoles still have over five months to play the game, it's important that all new players download War zone ASAP as it will no longer be on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 showcases come June 4th. If you have a friend or two that you've been trying to get into the game, it's important that they add War zone to their libraries before this end date. If Call of Duty: Warzone has been downloaded to a PS4 or Xbox One previously, then it can be downloaded again until the actual end date in November without problems. On June 4th, COD Point Currency Packs, Call of Duty League Operator Packs, and so on will also be removed from the consoles' storefronts.

If June 4th is the end of new, last generation players joining Call of Duty: Warzone community, then June 25 marks the end of in-game shopping. Players can only purchase cosmetics with the COD points they have purchased (before June 4th) until June 25th. On this date, the game store will be removed, preventing the purchase of packs altogether. It's worth noting that all of a player's purchased skins will be available if they upgrade to a newer console within the same family; if they bought an arsenal of skins for PS4 War zonethey will get to use them on PS5 War zone even after shutting down the PS4 version.

BO7 battle passes will still be available within the last generation Call of Duty: Warzone until the shutdown date later in 2026, allowing players to progress and unlock the free tiers. However, Premium Passes will not be available.

Last generation players will have a choice to make Come Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1

While an exact date has not been specified MW4 Season 1, initial seasons of each premium Cod the game tends to be released 3-4 weeks after the game itself. With Modern Warfare 4 will be released on October 23, making it safe to assume that Season 1 will begin sometime in November. So, with June 4th as the beginning of the end and a clear end date in sight War zone on PS4 and Xbox One, it will soon be time for players to make a decision. Do they want to upgrade to a current generation console and see the better textures, visuals and performance MW4-integrated War zone? Or do they want a few more nostalgic trips down memory lane – AKA Verdansk – before moving on from the game? While fans will have a few months to enjoy the latest generation version of the War zone and make up your mind, the clock is ticking and you want to make sure the game is in your libraries before June 4th arrives.
