Xbox has officially delayed Fable reboot to early 2027. Microsoft cited the large number of major games released during the 2026 holiday season as a key reason for the delay Fables release.
The new reboot of Fable will mark the long-awaited return of the beloved Xbox franchise. Microsoft first revealed the revival of the RPG series, originally developed by Lionhead Studios, in 2020, confirming that the game will launch as a complete reboot of Fables story. Fable has already been confirmed to feature the return of some of the most iconic locations from the past Fable game, with players able to visit revamped versions of Bowerstone City, Fairfax Castle and Serenity Farm. But fans will now be asked to wait a little longer to make their triumphant return to the land of Albion.
Fable delayed to early 2027
Microsoft confirmed on May 29 that it is moving the release date of Fable to early 2027. The announcement post revealed that FableThe new release date will be February 2027, moving the game's debut back several months from its previous release window of fall 2026. Xbox said that the large number of notable games released during the holiday season was the main reason behind the decision, specifically mentioning Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Dayand Grand Theft Auto 6inter alia. However, Microsoft revealed that fans will get a “big new look” at Fable during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.

Fables return will be accompanied by some major changes to classic systems from the older games. Playground Games will overhaul the morality system from the original Fable trilogy, which moves away from the classic good vs. evil paradigm. The reboot will feature a new reputation system for each of its towns and cities, with players able to create their character's reputation and moral standing in various ways. Fables settlements. Fable changing its release date isn't the first time a studio has moved to avoid releasing a new game during the 2026 holidays. Grand Theft Auto 6The current November 19th release date has already seen several developers actively avoid competing with Rockstar's latest game. Exodus Developer Archetype Entertainment previously shared that the studio considered “major game releases” when deciding on its debut game's release date, trying to avoid getting lost in the signal when pitted against other high-profile titles.

Xbox 2026 is set to be a busy gaming event for Microsoft's gaming brand, featuring some of the biggest names in gaming. Apart from the aforementioned Grand Theft Auto 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved is currently slated to launch later in 2026, although an official release date has yet to be confirmed. Several third-party games are also expected to debut in and around the holiday season, including Fuse Games' Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Remedy Entertainment's Control resonant.
