Omniscient Readers Prove Manhwa Hype Isn't Dead and Solo Leveling Officially Has a Real Rival

The golden age of manhwa seems to have come to an end, or at least it's on a very long hiatus. The oversaturation and repetitive formulas have left their mark on audiences, and a couple of failed adaptations (looking at you The beginning after the end) has disappointed fans worldwide.

Things may be about to change soon, with the arrival of the animated version of Omniscient reader's point of view (ORV), which was officially announced by Crunchyroll and produced by Aniplex. 2027 will be a great year for Manwha fans, and the arrival of ORV anime will set off a new explosion in adaptations that will finally provide Solo Leveling some competition.

After 6 years, Manhwa competitor Solo Leveling is officially getting an anime

Solo Leveling is the world's biggest manhwa, but a tough rival is making its anime debut in 2027.

The arrival of omniscient readers could change everything for the Manhwa industry

Manhwa has dropped significantly in both popularity and quality. With the absurd amount of comics crowding the market and the publishing standards being much more lax than in the manga industry, artists have gone through an accelerated silver/golden age, then fallen into the darkest of ages with some dirty and repetitive subjects.

Revenge stories, power fantasies, villains becoming romantic heroines, regression, game-like leveling systems, cliché and overused tropes among others. In fact, the Manwha boom happened during the covid pandemic, but now the audience is much more fragmented, and with so many offerings to read, watch and listen to, Korean series and web movies are on the decline.

But that could change thanks to the arrival of a significant anime in 2027, none other than Omniscient reader's point of view. Produced by Aniplex, this anime will adapt the works of Sing Shong, a pair of writers working side by side to bring to life one of the most popular series of the moment.

Omniscient Reader's Point of View is Solo Leveling's next big rival

ORV is equal (and in some places even greater) than Solo Leveling in terms of popularity. It ranks third among the top five ongoing action Manhwa, and its web novel ranks first on most platforms (second on a few others), in other words: Absolutely huge. When the anime arrives sometime next year, Manhwa may experience a second blooming effect, more so if we follow the logic of related subjects, which would inevitably lead to similar series increasing in popularity.

This kind of “calling effect” will attract even more people interested in promoting their popular series. At the top of the ranking of martial arts and martial arts series there is Eleceedwhich lands with its own anime later in 2026.

And if we talk about strong candidates for adaptations, The largest real estate developer is also one of the main contenders. However, as previously mentioned, only those at the top of the rankings will immediately be considered for an anime adaptation.

As mentioned earlier, the end of 2026 and 2027 could be the very best years for fans of Manhwa and Webtoons. Also, there's something big coming at a yet-to-be-determined date, and that's the anime adaptation of Stellar Swordmaster (or Star-Embracing Swordmaster) in a Webtoon/Warner Bros. co-production. Things are about to get exciting for fans of Korean comics.
