The Captain Kirk card is a Human Officer type legendary creature and costs one white, green, and blue mana, along with one generic mana, to cast. Captain Kirk has a powerful mana ramp ability that searches for either a basic land or the new Starship Enterprise card when he enters the battlefield or attacks, while giving starships +3/+3. The leak also reveals that the Captain Kirk card is included as part of the Commander subset for Star Trekand likely acts as the “face commander” of a pre-engineered deck.

Magic: The Gatheringpp Star Trek crossover is likely to follow suit with another new space-themed set. Edge of Eternities, released in August 2025, was launched as Magics take on the space opera genre, drawing inspiration from franchises such as Star Wars. Star Trek will debut as the final set of a year filled with major new expansions for Magic: The Gathering. Wizards of the Coast has already launched two new sets in the universe alongside the aforementioned TMNT crossover, returning to a pair of fan-favorite settings in Lorwyn and Strixhaven.
