Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles works as Magics first crossover set in March, featuring cards based on the four Turtles, Splinter, Shredder and more. Wizards of the Coast has already confirmed several upcoming collaborations to be released as standard-legal expansions, including sets based on Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbitand Star Trek. Now, one of the first cards from Star Trek collaboration has leaked months before the set's release.

A recent one Magic: The Gathering the leak officially reveals the new Captain Kirk, Boldly Going card from Star Trek set. The Captain Kirk card is a Human Officer type legendary creature and costs one white, green, and blue mana, along with one generic mana, to cast. Captain Kirk has a powerful mana ramp ability that searches for either a basic land or the new Starship Enterprise card when he enters the battlefield or attacks, while giving starships +3/+3. The leak also reveals that the Captain Kirk card is included as part of the Commander subset for Star Trekand likely acts as the “face commander” of a pre-engineered deck.

The new Captain Kirk card gives more hints about what types of cards might be in focus Star Trek set. Magic: The Gathering expected to introduce more cards in the newly introduced Spacecraft Artifact type, given Star Treks focus on interstellar travel. The Captain Kirk card's second ability also hints at another card likely included as part of the Captain's pre-constructed deck, which references a card based on the Starship Enterprise. Edge of Eternities, released in August 2025, was launched as Magics take on the space opera genre, drawing inspiration from franchises such as Star Wars. The set introduced the aforementioned spacecraft cards, along with a major change to the Commander format, allowing both vehicle and spacecraft cards to be used as commanders. Edge of Eternities also marked the return of the popular “shock lands”, as the powerful dual lands became standard legal for the first time since 2019.

Star Trek will debut as the final set of a year filled with major new expansions for Magic: The Gathering. Wizards of the Coast has already launched two new sets in the universe alongside the aforementioned TMNT crossover, returning to a pair of fan-favorite settings in Lorwyn and Strixhaven. Magic also has another in-universe set planned for 2026, with Reality Fracture focusing on the story of the popular planeswalker Jace and a parallel universe he created.
