If there's one complaint about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, aside from the fact that it may have overstayed its welcome just a little bit, it's the fact that its Platinum Trophy isn't for the faint of heart.
In fact, among Platinum Trophies, it's particularly brutal, requiring basically perfection in every aspect of the game, which is already long. Come on, Naoki Hamaguchi is aware that things may have been too difficult for even the most hardcore of Final Fantasy players.
As first spotted by Push Square, in a new interview with Restart.Run, Hamaguchi essentially apologized for putting Final Fantasy 7 fans through such an ordeal. When asked if there was anything he would like to reassess, he immediately pointed to the trophies.
“We prepared an incredibly diverse range of content as an open-world game for Rebirth, and designed the overall game with a philosophy where players could choose what they wanted to engage with,” explained Hamaguchi. “That said, the completion condition for trophies ultimately required completing all parts of the game perfectly, which may have been a bit of an exaggeration in retrospect.
“While our intent was to expand the freedom of experience, we may have inadvertently introduced a different kind of pressure.”

Forget Rebirth, the game I really want to see on Switch 2 is Final Fantasy 15
Nintendo finally has a console powerful enough to handle some absolute classics.
Things will be different in the final part of the trilogy
However, since the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project is a trilogy, fans can expect an easier walk around when the third part launches. Or at least one that is enjoyable.
“The final part of the remake trilogy features an even more diverse world and game design that is packed with a variety of content,” Hamaguchi said. “In line with this, we've made thorough balancing adjustments to the trophies, thinking more about whether earning them is inherently fun or whether they limit the breadth of the experience.”
As it stands, per PSNProfiles, which tracks registered users, only 12.31 percent of players have achieved the game's Platinum Trophy. That works out to about 13,511 players. “Completing all of Chadley's battle simulations”, a Silver Trophy is the rarest in the game.
All of this sounds like music to the Trophy hunter's ears, so here's hoping for an easier Platinum.
