Updated May 13, 2026, by Mark Sammut: NTE’s Misty Tipsy board has replaced Ichi-Daime, meaning Hotori can now be unlocked while Nanally has been taken out of rotation. It is a new day for NTE.
NTE: Neverness to Everness has had a fantastic start to life. Hotta Studio’s F2P open-world game launched on April 29, 2026, and by the next day, it was already a bona fide hit. Gacha games are a dime a dozen nowadays, but NTE stands out due to its urban environment, GTA elements, social sim mechanics, and strong roster of playable characters. This genre lives and dies on the latter, and Neverness to Everness has largely hit the mark by delivering a group of Espers who not only look great, but also play great.
As with all Gacha games, NTE‘s roster is not static, and characters will come and go. Which characters can currently be unlocked in NTE? The goal of this article is to keep track of the game’s evolving playable character lineup, and I will maintain a record of Espers who were part of an old banner but are not presently in the rotation.
The following characters have been left out as they don’t seem to be unlockable/playable at the moment:
- How to get Lacrimosa? While playable at some points in the story, she is not currently unlockable.
- How to get Nanally? She was NTE‘s first banner character, which ended on May 12. She cannot be unlocked at the moment.
- How to get Hotori? The Misty Tipsy board will be active until June 3.
Also, for “how to unlock,” the gacha characters are tied to banners that use different dice: Red Solid Dice (The Misty Tipsy Banner) & Blue Fabricated Dice (Strange Encounters Banner). Both of these dice can be obtained by exchanging Annulith (160 for 1 dice). They are occasionally given as rewards, but they are rare, and it is mainly Fabricated Dice that seem to show up.

Not currently part of any banner |
NTE‘s pity system means that an S-Class character is guaranteed for every 90 pulls, with the likelihood of unlocking one increasing after 70 unsuccessful attempts. The featured character of a banner is also guaranteed, so it doesn’t use a 50/50 system like other gacha games.
For the standard board that has multiple S-Ranked Espers, you will get (at least) one of them within 90 pulls.
For specialized banners that have a feature character, you are guaranteed to unlock them within 90 pulls.
Cosmos-Type Espers
Esper Zero (Aka, The Appraiser)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Cosmos
- Arc Type: Solid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock: Automatically
Well, might as well get the most obvious one out of the way. When players start the game, they will be able to pick between a male and female character who will be the story’s protagonist moving forward. Simply described as “Esper Zero,” this character is an amnesiac who has just been awakened, leading them to inadvertently defeat an anomaly. Due to being very obviously special, they are headhunted by the Bureau of Anomaly Control, taking residence at the Eibon Antique Shop. Channeling energy through their sword and inflicting Cosmos-type damage, Esper Zero is one of the most well-rounded fighters in Neverness to Everness, at least from what we have seen so far.
Chiz (Aka, NTE’s Guaranteed S-Class Character)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Cosmos
- Arc Type: Gas
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Chiz: Improve City Tycoon Rank To Level 18
Unless somebody gets lucky and pulls one of the other S-Class characters, Chiz could end up being some people’s first Esper of that rank besides the protagonist, although she requires quite a bit of work to unlock. The City Tycoon system is unlocked automatically during the main storyline, happening just after concluding the first Eibon mission that takes the gang to the photo studio. As she is the reward for reaching Level 18, players will need to complete a bunch of special quests that reward Fonds. The required sum is quite high, so Chiz needs to be earned.

The 24 Best Gacha Games For F2P Players
Players who can’t break the bank for gacha games should try the following F2P-friendly titles.
Edgar (Aka, The Reserved One)
- Rarity: A-Class
- Esper Type: Cosmos
- Arc Type: Liquid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Edgar: Gacha Fair System (Ichi-Daime & Strange Encounters)
Due to being surrounded by big personalities like Nanally, Taygedo, and Sakiri, Edgar gets somewhat overshadowed by his Eibon companions, and the fact that he doesn’t feature in the Picture Frame fight does him no favors. Still, he can be unlocked through the gacha system, although he seems to be one of the weaker NTE characters so far. That said, he is one of the only Espers who has a healing ability, as his Ultimate unleashes a domain that heals any active character for its duration of 10s. His Skill attack can also be improved by 50% via a level 1 awakening.
Hotori (Aka, Eibon’s Tipsy Leader)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Cosmos
- Arc Type: Solid
- Available From: May 12, 2023
- How to Unlock Hotori: Gacha Fair System (Misty Tipsy)
Following up Nanally’s run as the first banner girl, Hotori has now taken center stage, with the Misty Tipsy board being designed entirely around her. She even got a new release skin! While Haniel, Skia, and Aurelia are also part of the banner, those A-Class characters are just appetizers to prepare players for the main course. Due to the pity system, you will definitely unlock Hotori within 90 rolls, and that includes attempts made while Nanally’s banner was active.
As the leader of Eibon, Hotori should be pretty powerful, and that seems to come across well with her playstyle. Her abilities revolve around time manipulation, making her one of the more tactical Espers in NTE. At this point, not too much is known about the character, but we will learn more as people begin to unlock her.
You have until June 3, 2026, to get Hotori. If you want her, start working toward her.
Anima-Type Espers
Jiuyuan (Aka, The Rose Philosopher)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Anima
- Arc Type: Solid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Jiuyuan: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
Another Sterry Express member, Jiuyuan is lowkey one of the best NTE characters, and I’m not talking just about her combat abilities (which are great). The picture of refinement, her look and demeanor scream confident elegance, while the former also gives her a witchy vibe that is always a positive. In battle, Jiuyuan combines melee and two pistols, sort of like an NTE version of Bayonetta or Dante. She isn’t quite as deep as those characters, but she is incredibly fun to use and works pretty well as a team’s main character. Except for Esper Zero, Jiuyuan is currently my main.
Mint (Aka, The First Friend)
- Rarity: A-Class
- Esper Type: Anima
- Arc Type: Liquid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Mint: Automatically (Story)
Except for Taygedo, Mint is pushed as Neverness to Everness‘ early mascot, and she absolutely dominates the first 90 minutes of the story. A high-energy cat girl who, at times, can feel overwhelmed by the tasks presented to her, Mint is instantly established as Esper Zero’s new BFF, while also acting as their senpai by guiding them (and players) through the combat basics and also taking them to Eibon to meet most of the other characters. A free NTE character, Mint does not need to be drawn from the Fair, although you will need to land on duplicates to expand her awakening powers. Cast as a DPS, Mint should not be underestimated, as she hits hard and has a destructive Ultimate that can be upgraded through one of her passive abilities (which require an awakening).
Chaos-Type Espers
Daffodill (Aka, The Mysterious And Cool One)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Chaos
- Arc Type: Liquid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Daffodill: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
Another Eibon member, Daffodill has arguably the best design out of all the NTE characters so far; at the very least, her outfit is pretty cool. Equipped with two blades, Daffodill has more basic attack options than most of her peers, and her Break capabilities should be able to whittle down an enemy’s shield fairly quickly compared to other characters.
Incantation-Type Espers
Adler (Aka, The Deadly Butler)
- Rarity: A-Class
- Esper Type: Incantation
- Arc Type: Synthesis
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Adler: Automatically (Story)
Once Mint takes the Appraiser to Eibon, the first person the protagonist meets is Adler, a well-dressed and polite Esper who fights with a cane and phantoms. With incredibly high defense compared to his attack, Adler is meant to be used as a shield, with even one of his passive skills boosting this stat by 20%. Like Mint, Adler is automatically unlocked, serving as the final “story” piece that completes the default team of three. He complements Mint and the Appraiser’s DPS natures.
Baicang (Aka, The Silver-Haired Captain)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Incantation
- Arc Type: Synthesis
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Baicang: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
A martial artist who is the first person to meet the Appraiser, Baicang is a blend of casual and sophisticated. As one of the Bureau of Anomaly Control’s captains, he is clearly one of the most powerful Espers in not only the game but also this universe as a whole. Unlike Lacrimosa, Skia, and Fadia, players don’t get to test out Baicang during the intro section, so they will need to pull him using Fabricated Dice as he is part of that board. As an S-Rank, he is obviously difficult to acquire.
Sakiri (Aka, The Charming Rebel)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Incantation
- Arc Type: Gas
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Sakiri: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
An S-rank character who lives up to her billing, Sakiri seems to be an early contender for the strongest NTE character, although it is still too early to say that definitively. While not unlocked automatically, Sakiri is one of the four characters who fight the Picture Frame boss, giving players a sample of what she is capable of. Her weapon of choice is an entity called Kiroumaru, and she makes full use of her companion’s Kirby-esque inhale ability and its attack power. Personality-wise, she forms something of a double-act with Nanally, and she loves to pick on helpless Taygedo.
Lakshana-Type Espers
Hathor (Aka, The Angel Operative)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Lakshana
- Arc Type: Plasma
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Hathor: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
Working for Sterry Express, Hathor has an incredibly eye-catching design, right up there with Daffodill for the strongest in Neverness to Everness. Clashing white with black, she has angel wings, fingerless gloves, tattoos, tendrils, and a gold amulet that is hard to ignore. Positioned as a DPS from the available information, she should be a reliable option for both direct and Break damage, along with having a solid-enough defense to withstand a few hits.
Skia (Aka, The Canine Captain)
- Rarity: A-Class
- Esper Type: Lakasha
- Arc Type: Gas
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Skia: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
After Lacrimosa, Skia is the second NTE character players get to take for a spin, and he has an eye-catching design and a free-hand combat system that also utilizes shadows. While Lacrimosa doesn’t seem to be available at launch, Skia can be pulled through the gacha system, as I was fortunate enough to get him. One of the most well-known and authoritative figures in the Bureau of Anomaly Control, Skia is a bruiser who works well as a DPS due to his solid attack and high HP.
Psyche-Type Espers
Fadia (Aka, The Gothic Captain)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Psyche
- Arc Type: Synthesis
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Fadia: Gacha Fair System (Strange Encounters)
Armed with a massive shield and a devilish smile, Fadia is the third playable NTE character, completing the trio of captains who are sampled during the chaotic opening segment. Like Skia and Baicang, she is hidden behind the gacha system, requiring players to have the luck of the dice to unlock her (or they could pick her as an S-Rank after doing a certain number of rolls). Although her defense and attack stats are equal, Fadia is very much designed to be a tank, as she takes on a portion of the damage received by her teammates. She still packs a punch, though.

Most Anticipated Upcoming Gacha Games
With the genre becoming increasingly popular in the mainstream, eager fans now have more upcoming gacha games than ever to look forward to.
Haniel (Aka, The Welcome Gift)
- Rarity: A-Class
- Esper Type: Psyche
- Arc Type: Solid
- Available From: April 29, 2026
- How to Unlock Haniel: Automatically (Pre-Registration Bonus) Or Through The Gacha System
While most of the free characters are introduced as part of the story, there are two exceptions. Haniel is the first, as she was handed out as a global pre-registration milestone reward. Check your in-game mail, and she should be available along with a few other goodies.
For those who didn’t pre-register or failed to log in during the launch period, Haniel can still be unlocked through the Fair system by rolling a one. While I’m not 100% sure, I believe this roll might be automatic, as Neverness to Everness uses Haniel to teach players how to awaken characters and unlock new passives.
Designed to fit the “gamer” archetype, Haniel almost feels like a parody of Gen Z, especially since her shirt literally shouts out that generation. Still, she is a fantastic playable character, with her range-based attacks serving as a good contrast to the other free characters. She is also one of the most balanced Espers in the game, having both impressive attack and defense stats.
Aurelia (Aka, The 3-Day Log-In Reward)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Psyche
- Arc Type: TBA
- Available From: May 1, 2026
- How to Unlock Aurelia: Log In For 3 Days Straight
Automatically handed out to anybody who sticks around for three consecutive days, Aurelia is an A-Rank Psyche type. Except for the free story characters and, arguably, Haniel, Aurelia is by far the easiest character to unlock, as players just need to jump into NTE three days in a row. Simple. While her HP is relatively low, her defense and attack stats are solid and balanced. She is primarily a ranged fighter who fights almost like a water mage.
NTE Playable Characters Who Currently Cannot Be Unlocked
Nanally (Aka, The Loading Page Girl)
- Rarity: S-Class
- Esper Type: Anima
- Arc Type: Plasma
- Available From: April 29, 2026–May 12, 2026
- How to Unlock Nanally: Impossible
Once part of Eibon’s ranks, players will quickly meet a few colorful personalities who are all playable characters, and Nanally‘s big personality allows her to really stand out from the crowd. She is loud and mischievous, but in a generally likable way. While you get to take her out for a spin as part of the Picture Frame boss fight, Nanally isn’t automatically unlocked after that point. Consequently, players will need to go through the Fair system, but she is currently not part of any banner since she was the headline act of the original board that ended its run on May 12.
