Today marks the end of the Kickstarter campaign that got a new game from Temtem developer Crema was funded in just 8 hours, with every stretch goal now completed. This game is called Temtem: Pioneersand while it has monster-catching gameplay and mechanics, they are fundamentally different from the original title. Often considered one of the best Pokémon-similar games on the market, Temtem offers players an engaging campaign experience, PvP duels in Pokémon style and a “Battle Frontier”-style end game to complete a variety of activities and earn rewards. Of course, the focus is on the actual monsters, the Tems, and the same applies Temtem: Pioneers.
Temtem: PioneersThe success on Kickstarter was incredible. The game went from a goal of around $100,000 to fund the project to over five times that, finishing the campaign at 580% of the budget and potentially more, thanks to Crema opening up late pledges. There are several major changes to the formula Temtem: Pioneers compared to the original, including the following:
-
This is a survival game, which means players have to straighten up Temtem: Pioneers' Below for materials and resources to build bases and upgrade your equipment.
-
Players will gain access to a few different biomes to capture Temtems after defeating powerful bosses.
-
Temtem battles are real-time rather than turn-based, and players will be able to battle multiple Tems at once. The capture mechanics are also different, requiring players to move around the battlefield.
-
Digital-type Temtems are not available in this game, but there will be several new Tems that were not in the original game. Three of these will be available as starters, and they will probably have two evolutions each.

Temtem Support Ending, Monetization Gone
Developer Crema announces that it will soon end support and monetization for its particularly difficult Pokemon-like MMO, Temtem.
While it may be disappointing to see Digital Tems removed, it makes general sense since this game is set in the Downbelow, where the technology to make Digital Tems does not exist. However, it is confirmed that players will be able to use their Tems as mounts, and even have them help gather resources, which is a necessary step for base-building survival games.

While these six are the only new Temtem confirmed so far, there are more to come Pokémon-like games on Kickstarter. In fact, there are at least 12, if not 18, new Temtems that have been confirmed but not shown off:
- Fossil Thames — Fossil Pokemon is a staple of the series, and Temtem: Pioneers will include Fossil Tems for the first time. This was the second stretch goal of the match and will be three brand new Tems with an evolution each.
- Appetizer Tems — Much like every generation of Pokémon freshmen there will be three starters for the Pioneers, and they will all be new Tems. However, they have not been revealed so far, but they will probably have at least one evolution, or most likely two evolutions each.
If you're wondering if this is a game where you can pet animals, the answer is yes: you can pet all Tems, as confirmed in one of the Kickstarter updates.
Given that two of the stretch goals for this Kickstarter campaign included the Crystal biome and the Dark Forest biome, it's basically guaranteed that there will be at least one or two new evolution lines for Crystal-type Temtem and Mental-type Temtem, respectively. It is unclear what these might be, but there is also something else to consider.
Predict Temtem: Pioneers' Starters
The original game also featured three starting Temtems with two evolutions each, and their base types were Crystal, Melee, and Mental, respectively. These represent a trifecta, sort of Pokémon starters trifectas in the different generations, as Crystal is weak to Melee and strong to Mental, while Melee is weak to Mental and strong to Crystal, and Mental is weak to Crystal and strong to Melee. As such, Pioneers can have the same starting types, with different types for their secondaries.
It remains to be seen how many new Tems will be included in the final game, but so far there are already at least 18 confirmed, and more likely 24 in total.
