Expectations are sky high for Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 6which includes everything shown and released for it so far AND things that are only rumored. Fans have been picking apart the two trailers practically since their release, discovering the weirdest details out there (like which sunscreen GTA 6s NPCs use). And fans are seemingly split on the returning dynamic body feature, at least as to why it's returning now as opposed to GTA 4 and GTA 5.
For the unaware, Grand Steal Car: San Andreas introduced an RPG-lite feature that allowed players to change CJ's physical appearance and capabilities based on lifestyle choices. How often they lifted weights, rode bikes, ate from certain restaurants (like Cluckin' Bell). how often they sprinted and various other options resulted in different types of body type visuals for CJ. Red Dead Redemption 2 has something very similar for Arthur Morgan, where players could affect his beard growth and overall weight, but it wasn't in GTA 4 or GTA 5. And now it's rumored to be coming back GTA 6.
PSA: Don't harass Grand Theft Auto 6 developers (or any developer for that matter)
Anticipation for GTA6 is one thing, but the limit is constantly being pushed, and those who build what everyone wants are the ones who pay the price.
Dynamic body functions in GTA 6
A significant part of GTA 6s fanbase believes that a dynamic body system is returning, which will allow them to lose/gain weight and build muscle like both of the main characters Jason and Lucia in the game. The evidence comes largely from GTA 6s trailers, which like the sunscreen, have been taken apart. The evidence is generally weak and unconfirmed, but given Jason and Lucia's overall fitness (at a glance) it would make sense to allow players to affect this. In any case, assuming it returns, many fans have debated why it was skipped over the past two games.
Jason's facial hair is shown in multiple lengths, also suggesting that a dynamic body function may be present.
Camp 1: Who Cares?
The general feeling about this possible GTA 6 feature is divided into two camps: confused by it/disliked it OR explain it via story. Reddit user OGAnimeGokuSolos, for example, highlights how they've always found it “strange” that the feature skipped two Grand Theft Auto game. Frequent-Piano6164 simply expressed how they “actually disliked having to eat” and just wanted to play games without “having to eat and exercise” because it was getting boring. Others suggested that it was just a gimmick and that it wasn't that deep, so caring about it or even noticing it was largely irrelevant.
Camp 2: Narrative Design
And while some are confused or concerned about it disappearing and returning, many loved how they could make Fat CJ or Roided-Up CJ in GTA San Andreas thanks to the dynamic body function. But many more explain its disappearance as due to the story, which makes sense. It's not, they say, that Rockstar simply didn't care—it's that the story didn't support such a feature, highlighting the necessity of narrative design in video games.
Reddit penalty law explained that it would make “little sense narratively” to have such systems for GTA 4 or GTAKE 5 sign, with its implementation in Red Dead 2 be more comprehensible because of its emphasis on realism. The narrative aspect wouldn't make sense for example GTA 4 protagonist Niko as he steps off the boat in Liberty City. He would not suddenly bulk up, which is also an important aspect: how each Grand Theft Auto the game plays with time.

Fit the 9 games into the grid.
You think so GTA San Andreass last anywhere from 4-5 months to 9 months, which is enough time (if by video game logic) for CJ to get shredded. Meanwhile, as Unusual-Ad4590 points out, “[Grand Theft Auto 5] takes place over a few weeks.” Other Redditors also discussed how GTA 5s defining feature (three main characters) would likely overcomplicate such an addition, while Mutant_Star pointed out that such a feature would take away from the “Michael is out of shape” jokes. Overall, for those who care about the function of the GTA game, it's clear they understand that its absence can at least be explained away narratively – even if the exact reason is unconfirmed.
