Fable developers are pushing back against delay rumors

Fable developer Playground Studios is pushing back on recent reports that the game will be delayed, potentially as late as 2027. Fans have been waiting a long time for a new entry in Fable series, where this was recently announced all the way back in 2020. Fortunately, Playground Games seems to have been making steady progress, as the developer confirmed an Autumn 2026 release earlier this year during the Xbox Developers event.

However, recent rumors have begun to cast doubt on the launch window. Game Mess host Jeff Grubb recently indicated that he heard that from sources Fable has been pushed internally, though the studio was still working on releasing the game in 2026, possibly in December before the end of the year. Another potential problem is the possible launch of GTA 6 by Rockstar Games, currently scheduled to arrive on November 19, though many expect a potential delay there as well. Either way, studios struggle to find a good time to launch games as they also try to avoid GTA 6 drop the window.

Fable Devs Push Back Against Delay Rumors

Interestingly, Playground Games seems to be taking a subtle shot at the recent delay rumors, while continuing to keep fans excited about what's to come Fable restart. Although it does not directly address the rumors, the official Fable the social media account has changed the way it responds to fans online. The messages used in response to fans excited to play have been slightly updated to include the previously announced release timeframe. So instead of just saying “We're excited to welcome you to Albion” the message has been updated to now say “We're excited to welcome you to Albion in Fall 2026!” It's also not a one-off message, as the account has continued to respond to fans online with this phrasing, so it seems very intentional.

Despite how positive this announcement looks, it's worth noting that nothing has been officially confirmed or denied, so it's entirely possible that the game has been delayed in some capacity internally at the studio. Regardless, based on the announcements, it seems like the developers are pushing to keep the Fall 2026 window accurate, so that could be a very good sign. With months to go before a potential launch date, things could change, so fans will have to continue to wait for official word.

Based on what was shown in January, Fable appears to be a very ambitious entry in the long-running franchise formerly maintained by Lionhead Studios. Playground pays homage to the franchise by retaining many of the main themes and ideas, such as the British humour, as well as classic locations such as the Bowerstone. The Fable reboot also features over 1,000 unique NPCs, each with their own names, roles, and daily routines to follow, and they'll even react differently based on the player's actions and titles they've earned. While not officially confirmed, recent leaks have also seemingly confirmed other areas within Fables huge open world that series veterans will probably be familiar with.

Either way, the back half of 2026 is currently shaping up to be a huge one for video game fans, with GTA 6 leading the charge. But apart from the highly anticipated game from Rockstar, the fans also have big games like Marvel's Wolverine, Phantom Blade Zero, Marvel Token: Fighting Soulsand a number of potential end-of-year releases that Onimusha: Path of the Sword and Halo: Campaign Evolved. Of course, the months of November and December will probably be a bit chaotic with studios scrambling to avoid GTA 6so things can certainly change between now and then.
