Last September, Nintendo made all Fire Emblem fans jump for joy when they announced a new entry in the long-running franchise, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title set to launch sometime in 2026.
With a nearly three-minute long reveal trailer, Nintendo gave some early clues, plus a first look at the game before it disappeared. Ever since the September reveal, there's been radio silence from Nintendo, but some eagle-eyed fans believe the wait may soon be over, thanks to a now-revealed PEGI rating.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Is Going To Be The Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 of 2026
Nintendo's next big RPG could take the world by storm just like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Things are heating up in the world of Nintendo
On Nintendo's GB website, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has a PEGI 12 rating, noting that it has “Violence”, “Bad Language”, and “In-Game Purchases”. Normally it wouldn't be anything to watch, but as Fire Emblem fans pointed out, the PEGI 12 rating wasn't always there.
As of April 7th, the Nintendo eShop page for Fortune's Weave had a preliminary PEGI rating. That rating was also PEGI 12, as Nintendo likely assumed that's where things would land once the game passed certification.
Where does that leave us? Well, Nintendo might be ready to dish out some more news about FIre Emblem soon. Where things get particularly interesting is if that means a new Nintendo Direct is on the horizon.
That “In-Game Purchases” label shouldn't cause too much concern. Several other Nintendo first-party titles have carried that label, and it almost always has to do with Nintendo Switch Online functionality rather than dedicated microtransactions.
As recently as two weeks ago, reliable insider NateTheHate reported that there won't be a standalone Nintendo Direct until June. However, that doesn't mean there won't be any Nintendo Today reveals or the like.
Recent rumors have suggested that Star Fox is coming back in a big way beyond Fox McCloud's appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and that the reveal will happen sometime in April. Without a Direct, that makes Nintendo Today or social media a logical path.
Of course, Nintendo could only wait until June with all of this.
On top of all this is the fact that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave isn't the only first-party title to have its rating updated, as Splatoon Raiders also had its rating changed, and like Fire Emblem, it once had a provisional rating that no longer exists.
Moreover, they are not even the only titles that have been rated. Guardians of the Galaxy, the 2021 Eidos-Montreal-developed title starring Marvel characters, also recently received a Nintendo Switch 2 rating that suggested a port could be on the way. Elsewhere, Devil May Cry 5 also appears set for a Switch 2 release, with a separate SKU being classified in Taiwan.
Where there's smoke, there's fire, and in this case, the abundance of age ratings suggests some big news soon.
