A Pokémon hell has created Diglett regional variants, turning Pokemon into something closer to eggs than underground moles. The smart designs have found popularity with Pokémon fandom, especially for taking inspiration from real creatures.
Pokémon is undoubtedly an endless font of creativity for fans, with players all over the world regularly producing art, stories and even fan games based in Pokémon universe. Regional variations for Pokémon like this fan's creation are a popular topic, as they are rooted in existing designs, but give artists enough freedom to still be creative.

Pokemon Fan shares Avian Diglett and Dugtrio
Prolific Pokémon fan artist Matratzfratz has shared his idea of what an Avian Diglett and its evolution, the Dugtrio, could look like. As the name suggests, the Avian Diglett is a flying type and has shifted from its normal appearance to one that looks like a nest containing a single egg. The artist has shared an amusing Pokemon Pokedex entry, noting that Diglett sometimes only appears in Pokemon nurseries, or when a Buneary is nearby, nods to Pokemon Kindergarten eggs and Easter egg hunting traditions. But things get particularly interesting with its evolution, the Dugtrio, which has a design twist based on actual zoology.
Avian Dugtrio, spelled with a question mark given the presence of four creatures, looks like a trio of Diglett with an oversized egg-like ditto behind it. While Ditto is popular right now because Pokemon Pokopiathis particular Ditto has an unfortunate reason for being there. The design is based on real brood parasites, such as the cuckoo, which leaves its own eggs in the nests of other kinds of birds to be raised by them. It's not a completely peaceful existence, however, as brood parasites drive out the young that actually belong to the host nest. With that in mind, the worried expression on one of the Digletts that make up the evolution makes sense, with the “mysterious fourth sibling” apparently viewing all of his “siblings” as eggs to be cracked.
While the artist has not illustrated any additional shapes for this creation, they have shared some additional ideas. The mega-evolution of this particular Pokémon, they say, would be the fourth odd sibling all on its own, except that it would now be “well-fed,” either implying that it has eaten all the food meant for its siblings or perhaps even eaten them itself. Pokémon fans seem to revel in the creativity of the design and the thought that went into it, even though it's based on a morbid phenomenon in the real world.

While turning Diglett into an egg fits the design of Pokemon well, the original series went in a different direction when it creatively redesigned Pokemon and its evolutionary tree. The regional form, Alolan Dugtrio, gets long blonde hair and takes inspiration from the volcanic activity common in the region. Meanwhile, the converging species Wiglett and Wugtrio look very similar to Diglett and Dugtrio, but are based on creatures such as garden eels. It would be interesting to see what other real species could be combined with Diglett and Dugtrio to create more regional variants and converging species.
