Even if you've played through the Blood Cage several times, you may have missed this area

Blood borne is a game filled with secrets, but few have surprised players as much as Forsaken Cainhurst Castle. More than 11 years after the game's release, Blood borne fans are still stumbling upon the area for the first time, underscoring just how densely layered FromSoftware's hit RPG really is.

Blood bornes lore describes Cainhurst Castle as the seat of ancient nobles who once actively traded with Yharnam. Their traditions brought them into conflict with the healing church, leading to their eventual slaying by the executioners. Left uninhabited, Cainhurst Castle fell into disrepair, and the road connecting it to Yharnam was eventually destroyed. The castle can therefore no longer be accessed on foot by the events of the game, although there is still a way to access it.

Another year means another Return to Yharnam event for Bloodborne fans, but they'd better act fast to avoid missing out.

Some Bloodborne players are only now realizing that Cainhurst Castle is fully accessible

The process of getting to Cainhurst Castle in Blood borne is complicated enough that some players are only now discovering it, even if they are not new to the game itself. Reddit user Onion-Funion bears witness to this trend and recently took to social media to share how surprised they were to learn that the remote castle is a playable area. This realization only hit them when they were on their third New Game+ run.

Dozens of fans who responded to Onion-Funion's post said they also took a while to realize that Cainhurst Castle is accessible. NPC Arthur gives the clearest hint that the area is playable, saying that he's trying to get there to complete his hunt for the Vileblood Queen. Beyond that, several things suggest that there is more to Cainhurst Castle than meets the eye. In addition to hiding several powerful items and what is widely considered to be one of the hardest boss fights in the game, this secluded location is also the place where Blood borne players can face Cainhurst Vileblood's confederacy.

How to reach Forsaken Cainhurst Castle in Bloodborne

  1. Defeat Vicar Amelia in the Cathedral Ward, then change the world state to Night by interacting with the altar skull.

  2. Collect the Cainhurst summon from Iosefka's Clinic in the Forbidden Woods (the clinic's front gate opens from the back).

  3. From the Cathedral Ward, go to Hemwick Charnel Lane and defeat the Witch of Hemwick (this is doable even before the Vicar Amelia fight), then make your way to the large stone obelisk.

Cainhurst Castle can be seen in the distance Blood bornes Hemwick Charnel Lane location, where the Witch of Hemwick lies in wait. That place also serves as the warp gate to the far reaches, although the key is in another part of Yharnam, which is deep in the Forbidden Forests.

Aside from interesting lore and unlock mechanics, Cainhurst Castle is also memorable for its architecture, with FromSoftware designing it as a late Gothic fortress adapted to extreme topography. Its overall aesthetic also incorporates pragmatic military engineering, combining thick walls and vertical layers with Gothic stylistic cues such as pointed shapes and dramatic rooflines.
