It's about that time. No, not the April 1, 2026 release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There is still a little over a week to go. It's time to find out the film's international age ratings, because sometimes they tell us more than what we see.
The British Board of Film Classification has officially pegged Mario's second big-screen outing (well, third, but you know) as “PG,” which is exactly where Illumination's 2023 predecessor came in. The thing about the old BBFC is that they often go into detail. They will do so in vague terms, rarely if ever citing actual characters. But with excitement hitting fever pitch for Rosalina's Hollywood debut, fans are wide-eyed at a couple of these ratings tidbits.
Laser Blasters And Displaced Sisters
“Light violence and threats.” That's where the BBFC hit the nail on the head. Pretty typical stuff, then. But as the above Twitter users noted (and sites like Go Nintendo have also caught wind), a few important things stand out here. First, there's this. Under the “violence” category, which is two out of five on the parental awareness scale:
“Fight scenes involve kicking, punching, laser shooting, and the use of fantastical weapons. The violence is sometimes intense but often includes comedic moments. A brief verbal reference is made to decapitation.”
It's the “laser shot” that stands out to people. This is hardly the first time fans have speculated that Star Fox's existence within Mario's burgeoning cinematic universe has been suggested; and there's no hard and fast rule that says only an iconic anthropomorphic fox and friends can fire laser blasts. It's just that everything is coming together at this point. And then there's this sad place under “themes” (one of five, if you're curious):
“Rare very mild upsetting scenes include flashbacks to the separation of a girl and her younger sister.”
Some are going wild, saying that this is proof that Peach and Rosalina were separated at an early age, and that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will establish that they are long-lost siblings. Hello. Perhaps! Others believe it's a reference to Mari and Lu, twin Lumas introduced in last year's Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 remaster. The would provide more logic behind the new inclusion of Rosalina's storybook in these versions.
Personally, I'm guessing it's the latter. But people don't have to wait long to find out. Be that as it may, I just want the movie to be decent!
Someone add Trophy Support to PSP
The PSP was already a great handheld. The addition of trophies makes it so much better.
