March 26th is a super busy day for video games

2026 has already been an impressive year for video games, following in the footsteps of 2025 and 2024. The industry has dropped a number of veritable firecrackers in just these first three months, from long-in-development indie gems like Mewgenics to AAA smorgasbord which Resident Evil Requiemand it looks like we're just getting started.

In April and beyond, a number of highly anticipated games will be launched, including Grand Theft Auto 6 (assuming it doesn't deviate from its claimed fall 2026 release window). Even earlier, however, is a massively overbooked March 26, which will play host to several high-profile games, especially on the Nintendo Switch 2. If you're looking to clear out some smaller titles ahead of some of 2026's biggest releases, then you might want to keep your eyes peeled for this March date.

Screamer (PC, PS5, XSX/S)

I'm up for a bold twist on a well-established genre, then Screaming has proven to be one of my most anticipated games of the year. Coming from Milestone Srl, a developer who has worked on both established racing games (eg Moto GP) and more outlandish ones (Hot Wheels are unleashed), Screaming blends a dramatic anime-influenced story with compelling arcade racing mechanics. The game's cyberpunk world, offensive racing gameplay, and colorful cast of playable characters make it, if nothing else, a breath of fresh air in the racing space, so I'm excited to see how it turns out.

The Midnight Walk (Switch 2)

This game was actually released last spring, but March 26 marks the day it migrates to the Nintendo Switch 2. With a striking visual style based on real clay, The midnight walk is certainly one of the most aesthetically distinct video games I've seen in quite some time – this alone may make it worth the cost of entry for some. If you moved on The midnight walk when it dropped last year, or if you just want to experience it on the versatile Switch 2, your chance is coming soon.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage (Switch 2)

Virtua Fighter 5 is one of SEGA's more exciting features. Originally released in 2006 as an arcade cabinet game, Virtua Fighter 5 was ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and has received several re-releases and remasters since then. The latest version, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage (before Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown), launched in 2021 and then again in 2025 for current-gen consoles and PC. Now this version is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, much like Ryu Ga Gotoku's other big franchise, Yakuza/Like a dragon.

Although it certainly has its faults, Virtua Fighter 5 is a solid and satisfying 3D fighting game with a small but dedicated community. Its quick encounters and easy-to-learn controls also make it suitable for the Switch's handheld capabilities.

Icarus: Console Edition (PS5, XSX/S)

Icarusa sci-fi survival game from DayZ creator Dean Hall, is making the jump to consoles this month, after already launching on PC in 2021. The game takes place in the far future, on a planet that was the subject of a failed terraforming attempt by humanity and is now full of hostile fauna and environmental hazards. Players control an explorer who ventures into this deadly and untamed land in search of rare and valuable resources, lending Icarus a decidedly extraction shooter-like edge. With up to 8-player co-op, the game's release on consoles should hopefully at least lead to a healthier online community.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park (Switch 2)

The full title is a mouthful, but you get the idea: the latest 2D Super Mario Bros. will get a Switch 2 release on March 26, and will come along with Meeting in Bellabel Park expansion. The Switch 2 version of the base game is about what you'd expect, offering better visuals and performance Meeting in Bellabel Park adds a whole new world, complete with unique activities. For example, the expansion adds the Game Room Plaza, which has eight new multiplayer challenges to compete in, and the Toad Brigade Training Camp, which adds new spins to levels from the base game.

A re-release of the 2017 game Super Lucky's Tale, New Super Lucky's Tale features a reworked story, improved camera controls, and various level design changes, which fans of the original generally consider improvements. After releasing on Switch in 2019 and on PS4, PC and Xbox One in 2020, New Super Lucky's Tale is coming to PS5 this month, allowing gamers to enjoy added benefits like 4K and DualSense controller support. If you're looking for another love letter to classic 3D platformers, this might be the game for you.

Life is Strange: Reunion (PC, PS5, XSX/S)

Perhaps the most anticipated game on March 26, Life is Strange: Reunion is ready to make a big splash, for better or for worse. Through the show's enduring time-traveling guise, Chloe Price from the very beginning Life is strange has reunited with Max Caufield, and the pair must once again stop a catastrophic event. It's hard to say how this will turn out, as bringing Chloe back into the fray after all this time is certainly a bold choice. Here's hoping deck nine manages to stick the landing.
