Atomic hearts fourth and final DLC will launch on April 16. Protagonist P-3, the twin and the rest of their crew have one last mission to put an end to CHAR-le's plans for good. Since the DLC was recently announced, many of the finer details are still under wraps, but next Atomic heart chapter makes one thing abundantly clear: there will be plenty of in-your-face action.
When Atomic heart first arrived on the scene, it turned out to be an interesting mix of first-person shooter and sci-fi concepts. With its alternate history setting depicting a powerful and technologically advanced Soviet Union, Atomic hearts lore and world-building are some of its main shining points. Such a unique world and tone really set Atomic heart apart in a genre that can be difficult to stand out in. Similarly, each Atomic heart DLC has expanded this world, and the final chapter, Blood on Crystal, finally ends the first game.

New enemies called polymorphs provide a deeper layer to fight
This all-new enemy is described as “a new group of mysterious creatures created from the horrific experiments of CHAR-les himself.” Atomic hearts enemy types have continued to get more challenging with each chapter, and Polymorphs are teased as something that will really put P-3 through the wringer. Of course, that means there will also be more of the CHAR-les in the spotlight. These polymorphs are one of the evil artificial intelligence's many experiments that will require the P-3 to think quickly during combat. Polymorphs have only been teased for now, but the official press release for Blood on Crystal confirms that the enemies “will force you to adapt your fighting style on the fly.”
However, that is not where the challenge ends. Blood on Crystal promises “the craziest bosses you'll encounter at Facility 3826,” and it's not like Atomic hearts boss fights were lighter to begin with. These encounters are usually really quick and require almost perfectly timed escapes, so there's no telling what horrors await players in this chapter.
One more journey into the depths of facility 3826
Facility 3826 has been at the center of Atomic hearts lore since the beginning, and players will be able to explore an entirely new location in the lab. “P-3, the twin and their comrades must venture deeper into Facility 3826 than ever before to battle the CHAR-les and make one last desperate attempt to save humanity from total annihilation.” Getting to dive into some of the deepest parts of the now overrun lab is sure to be both exciting and terrifying.
This new location in Facility 3826 is called the Crystal Complex and is one of the most secret areas.
Blood on Crystal presents the perfect time to finally jump into Atomic Heart
Atomic heart might not have been one of the most popular games of 2023, but it's definitely a special sci-fi title that many have seen as underrated. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it has a lot of creativity and heart put into it that makes it a truly unique experience. Atomic heart is one of the best alternate history games of the past decade, so fans of both that genre and Soviet-era sci-fi should give it a try. What's even better is that the Blood on Crystal DLC is now the best time to check out the game if you haven't already.
Atomic heart's Blood on Crystal DLC will finally tie up the first game's story. So players who want a complete story can play the base game and then check out all four expansions to get the full picture without having to wait. Besides the DLC, it's the best way to get a full story before the game's sequel as well. Atomic Heart 2 was announced during Summer Game Fest 2025, and it will be interesting to see how Blood on Crystal plays into that. Based on Atomic Heart 2s trailer, P-3 may not be the playable character, so Blood on Crystal could potentially provide clues as to why that is. There's only room for speculation right now, but this makes Blood on Crystal the most exciting DLC yet.
