PlayStation account asks what remakes players want after shutting down Bluepoint

Five years after acquiring the studio, news broke last week revealing PlayStation's plans to shut down Bluepoint. A studio known for its remakes and remasters that has not released a single remake or remaster under the PlayStation banner. That's despite PlayStation seemingly wanting to remake some of its classics, but days after the Bluepoint news broke, it asked users which games they'd like to see remade next.

PlayStation Germany asks which games fans want to see remade next

Just days after the baffling Bluepoint news arrived, the official PlayStation Germany account shared a post which, when translated into English, reads: “What PlayStation game would you like to see remade?” Perhaps a new gold standard for the video game industry when it comes to someone's inability to read the room.

PlayStation measuring the remake waters right after shutting down its remake studio — again, after doing nothing with it for half a decade since it was acquired — has made people angrier than they already were, and they were already pretty damn mad. So much so that, after deciding to leave the post and weather the storm, the inappropriate remake question has now been scrubbed from PlayStation Germany's Twitter account.

Nothing on the internet is gone forever though, and you can check out the post below.

PlayStation still hasn't officially addressed Bluepoint's closure

PlayStation has yet to comment on Bluepoint's closure in an official capacity. However, Bloomberg broke the shocking news last week that the studio responsible for the remake of Demon's Souls and Uncharted's Nathan Drake Collection is shutting down. An internal email sent to employees by PlayStation boss Herman Hulst has been leaked explaining why Bluepoint is being removed from the PlayStation family.

Hulst's explanation doesn't make this any more palatable. It's still unclear why PlayStation would buy a remake studio – seemingly because of how impressed it was with the work Bluepoint did on the projects mentioned above – not give it some remakes to work on, and then shut it down five years later. It is believed that the only project Bluepoint was given during its official PlayStation period was the God of War multiplayer project. Something outside the wheelhouse that stopped being tuned.

PlayStation Studios are not forced to make live service games, says Shuhei Yoshida

Ex-PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida says that PlayStation's recent focus on live service games is “probably mutual,” and that developers aren't being forced to make them.

Now, just to add insult to confusing injury, PlayStation is asking which remakes we want. Sure, it could have been a community manager working the weekend shift thinking they were being funny and trying to get under people's skin while no one was paying attention, but even if that's what happened, this whole situation still makes so little sense.

It will hurt other projects not related to Bluepoint as well. Having finally regained some credibility, and with launch just around the corner, many are taking out their Bluepoint games at Marathon, with some going as far as canceling their pre-orders in protest.
