The latest State of Play event, which took place on February 12, has become a record-breaking event for PlayStation. February 2026's jam-packed State of Play ran for over an hour, giving PlayStation fans updates on some upcoming exclusives, a look at brand new titles and more. Now it has been revealed that the event was the most viewed State of Play ever, surpassing 3.2 million views and comfortably surpassing the previous record by more than 200,000 views.
PlayStation kicked things off last week with the announcement that a new State of Play event would take place on February 12th. Fans speculated from the start that this would be a huge event, as the company confirmed that it would be over 60 minutes of news, game updates and announcements from game studios worldwide. PlayStation promised gamers that February's State of Play would also highlight eye-catching third-party and indie games heading to PS5, along with the latest from the team at PlayStation Studios. While previous events have been criticized for being rather lackluster, PlayStation came up with the goods this time around, so it's no surprise that it was a record-breaking event for the company.
PlayStation 6 may not be released until 2029, according to new report
A new report from a reliable insider suggests that Sony may not release its next-generation console, the PlayStation 6, until 2028 or perhaps even 2029.
PlayStation's mode in February 2026 breaks viewing records
As discovered by Push Square, the latest State of Play has become PlayStation's most watched ever, with over 3.2 million views on its main live stream. This doesn't take into account any co-streams, which are usually in alternative languages, but the main YouTube live stream now has more than 200,000 views more than the previous record holder, which was June 2025's State of Play. While that's an impressive record for PlayStation, the company's State of Play event still hasn't managed to surpass the popularity of PlayStation Showcases. Although similar to State of Play events, a Showcase usually has much bigger reveals and announcements, which is why the largest has nearly 5 million views.

Sony started with the first trailer for Kena: Scars of Kosmoraa sequel to the 2021 hit, Bridge of the Spirits. The next 60+ minutes then consisted of updates for upcoming titles such as Saros and Marathonas well as the worldwide unveiling of brand new titles including Project Wind stilla nameless one John Wick games from Saber Interactive, and God of War: Sons of Spartawhich is a new 2D platform game available on PlayStation 5 right now.
The show ended with a big announcement from Santa Monica Studios, confirming a remake of the original God of war Trilogy is now under development. However, there were many other titles that fans were hoping to see that did not appear. The glaring omission was Marvel's Wolverine, which many were hoping to see a new trailer for given its current release window of fall 2026. There are also rumors that a PS5 version of Starfield is imminent, but insiders claim that an official announcement will be made next month during a dedicated Bethesda showcase.
