Emotions in Yakuza Kiwami 3 allow Kiryu to wave at NPCs and get unique responsesas some will turn their heads and respond accordingly with waves, bows and greetings. However, that's not the only thing emotes can do.
Players can emote to complete Security Chief, Osamu Yasumura's requests at the Morning Glory General Storewhich rewards Funds for Morning Glory and unique items.
Other than greeting NPCs and completing Chief of Security Requests, it appears that emotes do not have an extended purpose that will benefit players in and out of battle.
To feel emotions in Yakuza Kiwami 3, all you have to do is hit Square when you're out of battle. This will allow Kiryu to wave his hand at other NPCs. This action can also be achieved while running Street Surfer.
