Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo draws closer to the end with each passing chapter, and it's pretty clear that the story is in its very final phase. Thanks to Maru's cursed technology, the final segment of the story has now officially begun, with Yuji Itadori heavily involved as well. Meanwhile, the massive battle between Dabura and Mahoraga is going on, and it's clear to see that the climax of this whole story is going to be incredibly chaotic and life-changing for all the wizards in Japan.
As is clearly established in the story at this point, the goal is to create a world where cursed spirits are no longer born. This was the original goal in Jujutsu Kaisen story that Gege simply forgot in the main story towards the end. Now the sequel is doing wonders to fix the problems in the JJK world, and things are finally falling into place in that regard. JJK Modulo Chapter 22 was the beginning of the end for the whole storyas the biggest plot in the entire franchise now ends.
Yuji battles Mahito in Shibuya again in JJK Modulo Chapter 22
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 picked up right where the last left off when Yuji met Maru in a realm that exists between life and death. All the deceased passed through this realm, and it's also where fans saw Mahito at the end of the original story, after Ryomen Sukuna's death. At that point, Sukuna joined Uraume and went on to the other world. Apparently, Mahito was still waiting for Yuji Itadori. When Tsurugi temporarily passed out at the beginning of the sequel manga, he too ran into Mahito, and it was pretty clear to see that Yuji and him would meet at some point sooner or later. The ending of JJK Modulo finally revealed to fans how these two would reunite. Thanks to Maru's cursed technology, Yuji and Mahito were chosen as the two people responsible for the great upheaval the wizarding world was about to witness.
For the sake of fan service, Gege Akutami also threw a very exciting fight between Yuji Itadori and Mahitowhich was reminiscent of what happened in Shibuya in the original story. This time Mahito wanted to kill Yuji, but once again Yuji proved to be far too powerful for him. Although Mahito tried to expand his domain, Yuji's incredible powers of cutting and dismantling simply proved too powerful for him. Mahito was slightly subdued and his ability was taken from him. It must be remembered that the plan Maru intends to use will use his Idle transformation as a key point.
Maru and Yuji plan to eradicate the cursed energy
The largest plot in JJK Modulo
As established in the previous chapter of the story, the plan to Yuji and Maru intend to execute will see the extermination of cursed spirits completely in one way or another. In the original JJK story, it was stated by Yuki Tsukumo that there are only two ways to go about it:
-
Humanity must break completely free of cursed energy, in which case no cursed energy would leak out and cursed spirits would not be born most of the time.
-
Everyone is learning to be a wizard and optimizing cursed energy all the time. This would prevent the leakage of energy, and as such cursed spirits would cease to exist.
Of these two methods, the second seemed to be more effective, but it seems that Maru and Yuji have decided to go with the first option, which is to completely eradicate cursed energy from all people in Japan. The way the two plan to go about it is pretty simple. The first and most important thing they need is the Mule from the spaceship Naunax that the aliens came in. It is a source of very pure cursed energy, and together with Yuta's ring, which consists of huge amounts of cursed energy that he stored in it for decades, Maru plans to use Idle Transfiguration on all of Japan at once.
Considering that the amount of cursed energy poured out by these two sources is extremely large, this technique can be used on a country level, thus changing the souls of all Japanese people. When cursed energy disintegrates from their bodies completely, they will be free of the curse forever, and as a result, cursed spirits will no longer be born.
I wonder if I'll still be alive if I lose damn energy. — Yuji Itadori
Future Humans and Simurians will not have Cursed Energy
Maru makes a key distinction in JJK Modulo Chapter 22 regarding the current wizards that exist in the world and the next generation. The plan is to remove the source of cursed energy from both the Simurians and the humans, as anything else would be unfair. As such, both races are about to undergo a complete upheaval, but those who have already gained access to cursed technologies will most certainly not have their bodies altered. If it did, their whole lives would change. As such, any wizards already in Japan and any Simurians who already have access to cursed energy will not change at all. All future generations of both humans and the Simur will not carry any cursed energy, which would mean that cursed spirits will not be born on a large scale anymore.
There is more to cursed spirits than erasing cursed energy
For the most part, JJK Modulo Chapter 22 did a good job of establishing the method by which Yuji and Maru will go about erasing cursed spirits forever. As said by Yuji, by removing cursed energy completely, the world can forever be at peace. If there are any consequences for such an evil act, Yuji will continue to survive and accept whatever punishment comes his way. But at the end of the chapter, Yuji also says that just removing cursed energy won't get rid of cursed spirits forever.
We will not be changing the current Wizards and Simurians at all. Otherwise, their lives would change completely. — Maru
This may seem confusing on the surface, but it really makes sense. For example, any wizard not killed with cursed energy can come back as a vengeful spirit and thus cause trouble. If humanity loses all its wizards as well, then dealing with cursed spirits that still exist would be a huge problem. At the same time, there are also cursed spirits that exist outside of Japan, although not as numerous in number, that could still exist and cause all sorts of problems.
Clearly, there is more to erasing cursed spirits forever than simply removing cursed energy from the Simurians and the Japanese people. In the coming chapters of JJK Modulofans will also find out the answer to this question. One way or another, cursed energy is completely removedand this would mark the end of an era for the Jujutsu Kaisen as a whole, as its main power system was now officially destroyed. This is a fitting conclusion, as it solves one of JJK's biggest problems that the author himself established long ago. It's time for Geto and Yuki's dream to be realized by Yuji Itadori.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 23 will be released on February 22, 2026.
