Kaido stood out in the Wano arc as the hardest fight Luffy has had so far, even after the events of Egghead. He has definitely earned his epithet of the world's strongest being, since his mastery of all aspects of Haki and his overwhelmed Devil Fruit allowed him to take on the heroes' powers during the Onigashima Raid, which came almost immediately after his three-day battle with Big Mom. Some even believe that if he hadn't sustained such damage here, he could have defeated Luffy even after his Gear 5 was unlocked.

Whitebeard was known as the strongest man in the world; a title he definitely deserved. Not only did he have the most destructive Devil Fruit in the series that was strong enough to destroy the entire world, but he was also a master of all kinds of Haki. Even during the Marineford arc, where his sick and frail body did not allow him to use his Conqueror's Haki, he managed to beat the strongest admiral, Akainu, to a pulp with his Devil Fruit alone.
Gol D. Roger was the Pirate King for a reason

You don't get the epithet “Pirate King” without being the absolute force of a man. Roger was the captain of the only crew in history to ever find the fabled One Piece treasure, which simply wouldn't have been possible if he wasn't insanely powerful.
