While PlayStation Plus has had several impressive months over the years, it's hard to argue against the idea that it's been a bit all over the place of late. Both the January and February 2026 PS Plus Essential games missed the mark for many players. Either the genres that were focused on were a bit too niche, like the jet-centric one Ace Combat 7 and the family friendly Epic Mickey: Rebrushedor the games were critically panned, like the boxing title Uncontested. This rocky start to the year for Essential subscribers is only made more frustrating when combined with the consistently disappointing PS Plus Premium, creating a tough era for the service overall where Extra is regularly left to PS Plus's rescue.
While PS Plus has struggled to keep its standard tier appealing of late, and PS Plus Premium add-ons have been few and far between for over six months now, Extra consistently earns its subscribers' support via premium add-ons every month. Even when the other two tiers fall, PS Plus Extra is there to catch them when they fall, as there are at least two high-profile games released on Extra every month. These add-ons come alongside a variety of indies, ensuring that those looking for some deep cuts regularly have the chance to discover potential gems. As always, PlayStation Plus Extra seems ready to deliver with its February 2026 lineup, but there comes a point where one has to wonder when the other tiers will finally take some weight off their shoulders.
PS Plus Extra costs $15 per month and $135 per year. Comparatively, Essential costs $10 per month and $80 per year, while PS Plus Premium's price tag comes in at $18 per month and $160 per year.

The headliner for PlayStation Plus Extra this month is obviously Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2and it cannot be understated how significant this addition is. Not only is it a great game that takes full advantage of the PS5's technology to offer thrilling web-swinging, two unique heroes with distinct powers, and a beautiful version of New York City, but with this addition comes the entire Marvel's Spider-Man the series is playable via PS Plus Extra. Superhero lovers can prepare for Marvel's Wolverine by playing all of Insomniac's other Marvel games, taking in the premium side content, unlocking the many wonderful costumes and building the biggest combos they can. Getting a GOTY nominee and a major exclusive that's only a few years old is a huge win for PS Plus Extra, and further cements Extra as consistently great value for money.

Beyond Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Neva and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown also coming to Extra in February. The former is a wonderful puzzle-platformer from the developers of the equally beautiful Pigspins an emotional tale of a woman and her wolf as they traverse a dying world. With 87 on Metacritic (just three points below Marvel's Spider-Man 2's 90), PS Plus Extra subscribers get two acclaimed stories to play through in February. When it comes to Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crownit trades critical acclaim for online play and a breathtaking open world for players to race through. It won't be for everyone given its tedious progression and rather bland vehicle lineup, but despite its mixed reviews, its focus on multiplayer should provide some variety alongside these two single-player heavy hitters.
Adding to this sense of variety are the remaining PS Plus Extra games for February 2026, which span a range of genres. The turn-based one Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin put a sweet spin on Capcom's creature-filled series, Season: A Letter to the Future tells an atmospheric story, Venba is about cooking, and Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition is a third-person adventure game with fun mage battles. If that wasn't enough, there is also Rugby 25 for sports lovers, giving everyone something to look forward to this month. And while all these newly announced PS Plus titles should keep gamers busy, it's a one-two punch in the expensive blockbuster Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and charming, story-driven adventure Neva is a combination of Extra's high reputation.
While it's great that PS Plus Extra is on track to deliver another great series of games to its subscribers, turning the service around in February, it's frustrating that it has to keep playing the hero to begin with. Premium subscribers are constantly scratching their heads and wondering why they get so little despite paying the most, especially when there are still so many beloved PlayStation games that deserve a place in the Classics Catalog (Wall-E is the only game added to the Classics catalog in February and feels like an odd choice). Then there are Essential users, who have not only gone without a really exciting month for a while now, but are also waiting for the other shoe to drop when it comes to PS Plus ending PS4 add-ons. While PS Plus Extra is undoubtedly great, it's time for the other tiers to stop tarnishing its success and become equally attractive alternatives.
