FF7 Rebirth On Switch 2 will have an option to trivialize boring minigames

When the game enhancements came to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, many people were happy. The recent Switch 2 and Xbox versions of the nearly six-year-old game – the former seems to be selling quite admirably – are packed with in-game cheats that make replays a breeze. Beginners who want to focus mainly on the presentation and not worry one bit about the combat may also appreciate the option. Best of all, PS5 and PC players are getting the same treatment now via a free patch.

It was expected that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would receive similar treatment. Now we know that Square Enix is wasting no time in bringing the second part of its groundbreaking trilogy to more platforms, as it will follow the Remake to the borders of Nintendo and Microsoft on June 2nd. (It also has an exclusive Magic the Gathering card, should you happen to get your hands on the boxed version for Switch 2.) And thanks to a recent clarifying video from Hamreuchi, Naok—and we know. what we're up to.

9,999 reasons for platinum

“FFVII REBIRTH launches June 3rd for Xbox and Switch 2 and also includes the popular Boost features from the previous title,” tweeted trilogy co-director Hamaguchi on social media platform X. “For players who find minigames difficult, a new '9999 Damage' assist option has been added. We hope these features help everyone enjoy the best adventure in their playstyle.”

This is huge. I'll list all the boost features in a second, but I want to call attention to this one. See, Rebirth is a critical darling. And many, many, fans agree. It's one of the best JRPGs of the last decade, easily, and it's an improvement on the already great remake across the board. But some criticism existsand much of that is geared towards the sheer volume of mini-games, many of which are unskippable. Personally, I love minigames, and their spread throughout the game is a big part of why I feel so damn nostalgic for the old days when I start up Rebirth again. But I get it. Frankly, some of these are not good.

All minigames involving damage calculations have just been sent in brief. One of the short clips Hamaguchi posted as part of his tweet, for example, involves Yuffie absolutely pulverizing cactuars in the Corel region's Protorelic questline. This boils down to what can be a frustrating ordeal.

Here is the full list of available boosts:

  • Constant Max HP

  • Constant Max MP

  • Limit meter always full

  • Constant Max Synergy

  • ATB meter always full

  • Constant maximum damage

  • Max Damage: Minigame

  • 2x EXP and 3x AP Gain

  • Easy weapon skill acquisition

  • More material collected

  • Constant Max Gil

  • Constant Max Recovery Items

  • Max Materia levels

I'm not sure if this necessarily means you'll hit for 10k with every turn in the Fort Condor minigame, or one-shot every crate in the dungeon, or wipe out Gears & Gadgets in Cosmo Canyon, or What. But if it's anything like that, this is a huge moment. Imagine, if you will, 3D Brawler… like this. However, I would caution against assuming that will be the case, as these types of minigames run from separate systems. Still… I can't say I'd complain. I've been living in fear of that late Shinra Middle Manager side quest for literal years at this point.
