How to Track Missing Chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined

Recruit Ruff in DQ7 Reimagined to unlock the ability to track Treasure

From the moment players recruit Ruff after freeing L'Arca from its curse, players will have two interchangeable active skills which appears in the upper left corner of the screen:

  • Whistle (attracts enemies in the overworld).
  • Nose for treasure (discovers a hidden treasure nearby and reveals the amount left in the zone).

Players must access their Game Menu, then go to System, then Shortcuts. In the second shortcut, change the Whistle to “Nose for Treasure”. It will automatically bind to Button 2 (PC) or Right arrow (Comfort).

Now go to any location and try it. A message will appear says something like this: 'Ruff has a nose for treasures. There is 2 more yet to be found treasures nearby. It does A total of 3 treasures are waiting to be found in this wider location.'

The first part indicates that in the current case (map in a wider location) there are 2 treasure chests hidden (or golden glittering items in the ground, or mini medals/items hidden in vases, barrels or cabinets).

The second part indicates that i wider location (island), there are a total of 3 remaining hidden treasures that remain to be found. If there is no treasure in the minor instance (such as a house) that players are currently visiting, the ability will also reveal that.

If players then burrow into a building and use Nose for Treasure one more time, it will reveal if there is treasure in that building by revealing how many treasures are nearby. The second part will not change unless the players find one of the treasures on the island.

This type of metal detector-like mini-game can be used to narrow down the location of hidden chests, vases, cabinets and important items.

Players should know that monster hearts do not count for this and cannot be detected with Nose for Treasure, unless they are specifically placed inside a treasure chest (a small minority of them can be found inside chests).

To search for treasure in a larger location (the overworld), players must repeat the process, checking the world map with Ruff's ability, then enter locations one by one to limit the detection area.

Check each cabinet to find treasure in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

Now, to actually discover the treasures, players must follow these simple tips:

  1. Always start searching outside buildings, breaking vases and opening chests.

  2. Do a thorough clockwise search, then repeat the process counter-clockwise, changing camera angles to avoid missing any vases or dishes (they often contain mini-medals).

  3. Now enter buildings one by one and repeat the process, making sure to check every nook and cranny and even if the buildings have multiple floors.

  4. Don't forget to check Wells and note locked chests to come back later with Fast Travel.

Players will acquire a thief's key (skeleton key) further into the game, which will allow them to open locked chests. At the same time, there are certain chests that can only be accessed in the past or present at a certain location (island).
