The latest update for Destiny 2 has arrived, with Bungie aiming to fix many of the issues still plaguing the game, including a very strange issue with The Dawning's cookie oven. It cannot be denied Destiny 2once a live-services titan, has entered a very strange phase, one that has left society concerned with not only the short-term future, but also questioning the long-term future. Bungie has been quiet on this topic, but if the latest rumors are true, the studio's hand may be forced sooner rather than later.
Following the roadmap presented last year, Destiny 2 would release its next major update called Shadow and Order in early March. But that plan now appears to be scrapped as rumors from industry insiders such as Paul Tassi have indicated that Destiny 2: Shadow and Order sees a significant delay for a currently undetermined amount of time. Bungie has yet to officially confirm the news, but with the expected March 3rd release fast approaching, the studio has to say something soon. For many people, the big reason for the delay is to ensure it Marathon has as much attention as possible, as it is released just 2 days after March 5th.
Marathon Update Fixes Bizarre Destiny 2 Pre-Order Bug
Bungie confirms a new backend update for Marathon, which fixes a very bizarre pre-order bug involving the studio's other game, Destiny 2.
Unfortunately for Destiny 2 fans, it seems all hands may be on deck to support Marathon as official news for the 2026 game has been rare since the New Year. For now, Bungie has continued to release new updates for Destiny 2including the latest one, which is still engaged in fixing various bugs that still affect the game. In fact, the patch notes for this update have even highlighted a strange issue where Eva's Dawning Oven, a key item from The Dawning limited-time event, was still stuck in some players' inventories. Considering the event has been over for a few weeks now, it's very strange that the item was able to avoid removal and remained stuck in stock.
In addition to that, the update fixes a number of other bugs, including some involved in Destiny 2s Renegades Lawless Frontier activity. On Mars, sabotage missions can sometimes cause enemy attackers to spawn in behind a door, resulting in them being completely trapped and preventing the progress of the encounter. Another bug caused the Compact Defender legendary Sidearm to enter Destiny 2 to see its damage reduced after a player equips an overclocked cooler mod to the weapon.
Of course, this update likely won't do anything to assuage players and the various concerns it brings Destiny 2. As players continue to wait for some big news about the future of Destiny 2many have begun to wonder why the popular Iron Banner PvP mode has been missing for so long. Bungie usually rolls out this limited-time event a few times each season, but for some reason it's been gone for a lot longer than normal. Instead, Arms Week has already appeared 3 times. Additionally, with Shadow and Order possibly being moved to May, players are wondering what this means for the future roadmap, which was expected to look similar to what Bungie offered last year. Many are now assuming that a potential July expansion will now be moved further into the fall season as well, pitting it against some major AAA titles.
Although rumors suggest so Destiny 3 may be in the early stages of development at Bungie, there is a real fear that Bungie is winding down Destiny 2. Bungie's priority at the moment is clearly Marathon, a game that has seemingly progressed past its various controversies and underwhelming alpha tests last year, as the latest promotional material has been far more positively received. As Marathon seemingly taking off, the future of Destiny 2 is still an important discussion point for society.
