Return to Silent Hill is not just is being torn apart by critics, as it seems fans are even more negative about how “unfaithful” it is to Silent Hill 2.
Silent Hill may be back in the world of video games, but that doesn't mean it's invincible. If you need proof of that (beyond Ascension and The Short Message, of course), look no further than Return to Silent Hill. The new film based on Silent Hill 2 was released yesterday, and it has been brutally reviewed by critics.
As we reported earlier this week, Return to Silent Hill has seen some truly awful reviews (though at least it's risen to a still-awesome 15 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) knocking down pretty much every aspect of it. If you thought it might be a Five Nights at Freddy's 2 situation where the fans at least enjoy it, I'm sorry to say that's not the case.
Silent Hill fans may hate returning to Silent Hill even more than critics
“Don't stick your hand in a toilet 0/10”
Ever since the reviews for Return to Silent Hill dropped, I've been waiting to see if maybe the fans will see something in it that the critics clearly didn't. A look at the Silent Hill subreddit showed that fans of Silent Hill 2 may actually hate the new movie even more, if that's even possible.
Return to Silent Hill fails to grasp the simplicity of Silent Hill 2's story
Returning to our special place on the big screen.
One of the most popular posts on the subreddit right now comes from scarecrow007, who shared a meme of James drinking and just saying “wtf” after watching the movie. The comments range from hilarious criticisms like James not sticking his hand in a toilet to more damning, like a seemingly huge change to the game's ending that doesn't make sense.
The only thing some fans seem to be a little positive about is how Return to Silent Hill uses some of the game's iconography, but even that can't make up for everything it does wrong. Redditor PowerApprehensive823 said that Return to Silent Hill makes “The Minecraft movie look like The Godfather” and criticized the film for how “cheesy” and “completely butchered” it is.
If you want to go see for yourself how fans feel about Return to Silent Hill, the subreddit is packed with near-universal reactions criticizing pretty much everything about it. It's not that surprising considering all the problems fans have had with the lore since clips from the movie were released, but it's pretty clear that nobody likes Return to Silent Hill.
