ZA Update finally checks off a big item from fans' wish lists

Pokemon Legends: ZA may not receive new content in the form of additional DLC after Mega Dimension, but support for the game is still ongoing, both with regular updates and new ranked battle rewards. For example, players can get the Mega Stone for Sceptile in Season 5, but starting next week, there will be new rewards for Season 6, including the Mega Swampert. Still, if you're still playing Pokemon Legends: ZA and you're not done with all the content from the Mega Dimension DLC, rest assured that the latest software update finally has you covered, addressing a common complaint among fans.

While one of the most important updates for the game fixed Pokemon Legends: ZAs shiny hunting methods by removing the ability to “overclock” spawner locations, giving future patches a sense of possible risk, each update has always had gameplay improvement at its core. Now, with patch 2.0.1, the game is finally free of a problem that has plagued it since launch – the cap on Mega Shards you can collect. This was a problem when the game came out, and it became even more problematic with DLC for several reasons:

  • Pokemon Legends: ZAs Mega Shards must purchase Mega Stones from Quasartico Inc. during the story, with Mega Stones unlocking gradually as you progress through the campaign. However, the cost varies from 180 to 360 Mega Shards, meaning you can never buy three or more of the more expensive ones due to the 999 cap on Mega Shards.
  • Pokemon Legends: ZA's TM NPC in the DLC sells a bunch of new TMs for Mega Shards, with the cost ranging from 360 to 540, making it very difficult to buy multiple TMs, both due to the Mega Shards limit and the fact that you can only ever get two at once, regardless of cost.
  • To bring in Genesect Pokemon Legends: ZAyou must purchase all four units from the same NPC, each costing 540 Mega Shards. With the 999 cap, you could never buy two units at the same time.

  • This NPC also sells Feathers for the various stats in Pokemon Legends: ZAand each costs 60 Mega Shards. Considering that a single feather will be useless most of the time, since you need an even number to improve a Pokemon's stats, you'll usually need 120 for two feathers, if not multiples of that number.

Pokemon Legends: ZA finally raises The Mega Shards Cap to 9,999

Today, with the release of patch 2.0.1, Pokemon Legends: ZA increased the Mega Shards cap from 999 to 9,999, meaning you can now easily stack this currency when playing through multiple instances of Hyperspace Wild Areas. In fact, this is an incredible quality of life improvement, as you can easily collect hundreds of Mega Shards, so with the previous cap you would have had to go back and forth to Quasartico Inc. or NPCs nearby Pokemon Legends: ZA's Wild Zone 17 to trade for Mega Stones, TMs, Genesect's Drives or Feathers.

This is also a great change for potential new playthroughs or even new players, as collecting all the required Mega Shards will feel much less of a chore, given that they can accumulate much longer before going to the vendor, without having to worry about hitting the unwanted cap of 999. Even then, if you've hit Pokemon Legends: ZA already in its entirety, including the DLC, and even if you got all the TMs and caught the Genesect, Feathers will always be a good option to optimize the EVs of your animals over the more expensive vitamins at Pokemon Centers.

Why Pokemon Legends: ZA's new Mega Shard Cap is good even if you've beaten the game

Shiny Carvanha in Pokemon Legends ZA

Since a Hyperspace Wild Area can yield around 200 Mega Shards if it's a small size, medium and large will always yield much more of the currency, allowing you to accumulate as much as you want and then convert it all into Feathers or any other item you want. Raising the cap on Mega Shards was something that fans had been asking for shortly after the game came out, and while it may be a little too late for anyone who has completed the game, there are still some benefits to this. For example, training some of the best Pokemon Legends: ZA team takes time, and you need lots of capsules, mints and vitamins or feathers – even if you've already done everything else.
