2026 had some great indie, double-A and triple-A experiences across a wide range of genres. Ghost of Yotei was a big open world action samurai game. Donkey Kong Banana was a smaller action platformer that let players smash through solid rock. Finally, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was an open world game with a delivery and crafting system that was beyond cool.
7 Big Nintendo Switch 2 Sequels You Didn't Know Were Coming in 2026
The Nintendo Switch 2 is going to have a big 2026, and these sequels should go a long way to making that happen.
It was a good year for gaming, but now the new year is here. What Triple-A experiences will players enjoy in 2026? Although most of these games have fixed dates or release windows, they can be delayed. Delayed or not, the wait will be worth it.
Resident Evil Requiem
The eruption is near
-
Planned release date: 2/27/26
-
Planned systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
Resident Evil Requiem will bring fans back to Raccoon City, where they will get to play as a new character, Grace, who investigates a series of brutal murders. Her play sessions will be more puzzle-based, with a lot of hiding from intense enemies.
Old school fans will also appreciate the return of Leon, who will interact with Grace's story in some way. His segments will be more action oriented, for those who enjoy the show's gunplay more, instead of the more horror elements.
Crimson Desert
The Next Great Open-World RPG
-
Planned Release Date: 3/19/26
-
Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Crimson Desertfrom all the images shown, it looks absolutely incredible if it can deliver on everything it promises, including having an open world larger than The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. In this open world, players can fly around on dragons, fight robots, use environmental objects as weapons, as pillars, climb trees and more.
There are also various mini games, such as arm wrestling, fishing, flute playing and so on. From picking up sheep to stealing horse-drawn carriages to fighting hordes of enemies in brutal battles, Crimson Desert looks intense for a Korean action RPG.
007 First light
Back to Bond's age
-
Planned release date: 5/27/26
-
Planned systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
It's been ages since the last new one James Bond game, which was 007 Legends 2012, and it was not well received. 007 First light is a new opportunity for IO Interactive, and they will be able to showcase their skill in an open mission structure.
As a younger Bond, players will be given a loose leash on missions, although they will have as many opportunities as Agent 47 in Hitman the series is unknown. What is true so far is that the developer seems capable of presenting action set-pieces that would feel right at home in one Bond Film.
Phantom Blade Zero
The countdown begins
-
Release date: 9/9/26
-
Planned systems: PC and PS5
Phantom Blade Zero is finally coming out after lagging since it was announced in 2023. As Soul, the hero, players only have a certain number of days left to live, though that's just the premise, and it's unknown if it has much bearing on the game.
Welcome the next 5 great first-person RPGs
From fantasy to sci-fi settings, the first-person RPG genre looks intense for 2026 and beyond.
Players can expect very intense action with fluid swordplay, flips, counters, magic and more. It doesn't look like any other action RPG coming out in 2026, so about the Wuxia action Where winds meet was disappointing, hopefully Phantom Blade Zero will be more satisfactory.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Will this be the year?
-
Planned release date: 11/19/26
-
Planned systems: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Grand Theft Auto 6 has already been delayed once and there are rumors that it may happen again. Hopefully it makes its November release date, but if not, fans won't be too disappointed.
It's one of those games where the quality is already assured, because there hasn't been anything really bad Grand Theft Auto the game yet. Vice City and its surrounding areas look absurdly massive and packed with content, from hiking up mountains to kayaking down river currents, and of course committing crimes all in the name of getting rich or dying trying.
Marvel's Wolverine
The claws are out
-
Planned release date: Fall 2026
-
Planned systems: PS5
Marvel's Wolverine is another game that's been cooking for a while, first teased in 2021 before making a grand entrance in 2025 with a new presentation. Based on what they did for their Spider-Man trilogy, Insomniac Games has proven they can handle major Marvel properties.
The action looks more brutal than the Spider-Man games, which is fitting for Wolverine as a character. It doesn't look like an open world game, but there's certainly plenty of gameplay to be seen, from road hunting to taking down enemies in the snowy mountains.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
Tactical fans rejoice
-
Planned release date: 2026
-
Planned systems: Switch 2
For something completely different, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the next main line Fire emblem game in the tactical RPG series. Although the setting looks different and takes place in what appears to be a battle coliseum, the gameplay looks more of the same.
Players will be able to form parties, march them onto the grid-based map, and attack units with various weapons, magic, and skills. There will also be some city-based exploration outside of combat, but how much is currently a mystery.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword
Soul Sucking Samurai

-
Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
The Onimusha the series has been stuck on the PS2 since 2006, which Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams was the last major console release, beyond remasters. So, Onimusha: Path of the Sword has been around for a long time, and fans couldn't be more excited to return to feudal Japan to hunt down demons and absorb their souls.
5 upcoming new RPG games with fast-paced real-time battles
The future looks juicy for fans of action-packed real-time battles and RPGs. Here's what's all new and upcoming on that front.
The tone seems darker than previous entries, although there are some demonic characters that would fit right in from the campy villains of previous entries, including Gogandantess from Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny. With sword-based skills, enhanced with some demonic magic, players will be able to dive deep into the battle and lore of this upcoming entry sometime soon in 2026.

A second remake
-
Planned release date: 2026

Tomb Raider blew minds in 1996 as an action-adventure video game alternative to Indiana Jones films. It became a huge franchise, and the original was then remade in 2007 via Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Now, again, Lara Croft will get a visual upgrade when Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launched sometime in 2026.
Fans of shooting dinosaurs with twin guns will not be disappointed, as it seems that most of the original locations and scenery will return. Then, in 2027, a new Lara Croft adventure will be launched, Tomb Raider: Catalystso it's a good time to be a fan of this franchise.
