Four new match types are reported to be on the way WWE 2K26 having not made it to last year's entry in the series, along with a showcase mode built around CM Punk. There have been tons of different types of wrestling matches in WWE rings over the decades, and the modern games from Visual Concepts have focused on adding as many as possible.

WWE 2K25s new match types included Intergender Matches, Underground Matches, and the popular Bloodline Rules matches, where three of each contestant's friends or faction members rushed the ring to provide interference at various intervals. previous year, WWE 2K24 introduced Special Guest Referee Matches, Casket Matches, Ambulance Matches and three different types of Gauntlet Matches, keeping the series' gameplay fresh over the years.

An online post is fueling speculation about a potential major roster upgrade for WWE 2K26.

Now a new report reveals that three match types that have not been seen officially WWE game for several years enters WWE 2K26. According to Insider Gaming, the I Quit Match, Inferno Match, and 3 Stages of Hell Match types will all make their big returns later this year, and the next game in the franchise will also include Dumpster Match. Both the I Quit match, where players must force their opponents to announce their submission into a microphone, and the Inferno match, which requires them to burn their opponents with ever-growing flames around the ring, have been missing from 2K and Visual Concepts' games since they last appeared in WWE 2K14. In the meantime, have WWE 2K games never technically featured 3 Stages of Hell, a two-out-of-three case where each match follows different rules, but it was included in THQ and Yukes' smackdown vs. Raw series.

As for the remaining match type, not much information has been leaked about how it will play out in the game, but there is a likely chance that fans of the 2K games will find a very similar format to some other matches introduced in WWE 2K24. In wrestling, a Dumpster Match is usually won by tossing an opponent into the large, titular dumpster and slamming the lid shut with them inside. It's very similar to the way wrestlers usually win an Ambulance Match or Casket Match in WWE, but with a different prop. Both of these match types play roughly the same way i WWE 2K game, where players weaken and stun their opponents before throwing them into the coffin or ambulance and then go through a series of button mashing tests to secure victory.

The CM Punk Showcase is coming to WWE 2K26

The leak also includes information that says current World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk will be featured in the series' annual Showcase Mode, which should give players highlights of some of his best matches across WWE and, potentially, ECW. CM Punk is back in WWE 2K24 was easily one of the biggest highlights of his Season Pass, and took center stage in the ECW Punk Pack DLC released in May 2024. An older logo from the early 2000s was featured in that video, which could indicate that more Attitude or Ruthless Aggression content is coming to the franchise soon. With its massive Legends roster, the WWE 2K series already boasts a solid number of Attitude Era stars like The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The New Age Outlaws, and the potential for even more content from the beloved time period could mean even more Legends are coming soon.
