Marvel Rivals turns Deadpool into a three-in-one hero
Even if Marvel Rivals has kept his own spin on the trinity of hero shooter roles, the arrival of Deadpool will soon turn the metagame on its head. Deadpool will join Marvel Rivals once Season 6: Night At The Museum begins Friday, January 16. As said by Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen during the January 13th Dev Vision video, Deadpool will be Marvel Rivals' first three-in-one playable character, as he will be able to play as a vanguard, a strategist or a duelist at any time during the game. As a duelist, Deadpool uses his katanas and pistols to mow down enemies from different areas. Taking on the role of strategist, Deadpool can slash and shoot his allies to heal them while damaging enemies. For the Vanguard role, Deadpool can throw a giant unicorn plush to give his allies shields, and he can use his dual pistols against single targets.
During the first half of the Dev Vision episode, The Merc With a Mouth took it upon himself to discuss what he is capable of. Voiced by Alejandro Saab, Deadpool explained how some of his abilities work in Marvel Rivals. By taking out a comic book, Deadpool can improve his skills via “level-up” traits similar to an RPG. These buffs and traits depend on his role. Deadpool's Ultimate attack is also dependent on his roll, as its effects will change. Deadpool's Ultimate Duelist attack will select a target to harass and damage via his aura and weapon skills, while his Ultimate attack as a Strategist or Vanguard can strengthen his teammates via healing or defensive buffs. Unlike other heroes, Deadpool's Ultimate gauge charges based on “fancy fighting” skills. Deadpool can also test other players for buffs based on his role, though these buffs depend on how well the targeted player answers Deadpool's questions.
Marvel Rivals Season 6 is loaded with content
For team-up abilities, Deadpool will be paired with Jeff the Land Shark for “Mr. Pool's Interdimensional Toy Box,” which will have different effects based on its target. The area of effect (AoE) of Deadpool and Jeff's team-up ability can heal nearby allies and create a visual disruption effect for enemies caught within its radius.
