While enjoying your time in Heartopiathere are several hobbies you can invest time into to level up your skills, earn money, and have an overall better gaming experience. However, you do not have access to everything right from the start. To unlock each hobby, you must first raise your rank in the Developer's Guild.
The Developer's Guild, or DG, is something you'll gain access to almost immediately upon starting Heartopia, and each rank will unlock a host of new in-game features and activities, including hobbies. At first, you won't be able to choose which hobby to unlock, but later on, you'll have options to choose from.
How to unlock and upgrade hobbies
As mentioned, unlocking hobbies in Heartopia is achieved through GD. As you level up, you will often receive a Hobby Expansion Ticket as a reward, which can then be given to a Hobby Mentor in exchange for learning their associated hobby. At first you'll need to give your Hobby Expansion Ticket to a specific mentor, but after the first two you'll have a choice of three.
Eventually you will unlock all the hobbies in the game; the only difference when you get to choose from a few is the order in which you unlock them. Choosing one hobby over the others doesn't mean you'll never be able to learn the others. It just means you have to wait until you get a new Hobby Expansion Ticket.
Also, there is no right answer when using your Hobby Selection Ticket. If given the opportunity, you are free to choose whatever is available to you. However, there are times when one can benefit you sooner. For example, when given a choice between cooking, bug catching, and bird watching, the cooking hobby should probably be learned first, as it will be the most profitable.
At any time, you can open your watch and look at the DG Member's Guild option to see your current level as well as what level you need to be to unlock the next hobby. To see how far you are from reaching the next level, look at your contribution medals at the bottom. Unfortunately, you can only earn a limited number of these per day by completing requestsso you can't speed this up significantly.
How to unlock every hobby
Currently, there are only seven hobbies which can be unlocked in Heartopia. They include Fishing, gardening, cooking, bug catching, bird watching, cat care and dog care. The method to unlock each one and how to upgrade them can be seen in the table below.

While the benefits of upgrading each hobby are specific, they offer similar benefits. Generally, upgrading each hobby will result in products that are of higher quality or have more stars, and some upgrades can even reduce the amount of work you need to put in. For example, upgraded gardening can mean less time to grow higher quality crops.
How to upgrade hobbies
When it comes to upgrading hobbies, you will of course only be able to do so once you have unlocked the hobby. Once you start doing the hobby, you're already naturally on the path to upgrading it, and that's because just doing the hobby is how you upgrade it. If you select the Hobby option on your watchyou should see a selection screen with all your unlocked hobbies.
Here, if you click on one, then you'll see a list of different levels within that hobby, as well as vague details about what each level will unlock. Although you cannot see the requirements for levels beyond the next, the requirements will be the same.
First, you need to fill the meter at the bottomwhich will vary for each hobby and each level. The way you do this is by participating in a hobby. So, for the cooking hobby, cooking any food will help fill the associated meter, and the rest of the hobbies work the same way. Secondly, you need some Hobby Upgrade tickets.
The amount of Hobby Upgrade Tickets required varies by level and hobby, however you can see both the meter requirements and the Hobby Upgrade Ticket requirements for your next upgrade by looking at the bottom of the selected hobby's page. Hobby upgrade tickets can be earned like most things, through GD, and also as collection points.
Once you have met both the meter requirements and have the required number of Hobby Upgrade Tickets, you can simply tap the option to upgrade the hobby. If you see your hobbies, you should even see a small message above each one that can be upgraded right now.
You are free to upgrade them in any order you want, but it is recommended that you focus on the ones that give you the most valueespecially early.
Heartopia: All Currency Types, Explained
Heartopia gives you many currencies and very little explanation. Let's fix it.
Which hobbies should you unlock and upgrade first?
While there are some hobbies you have to unlock in a certain orderyou will be able to choose the order in which you unlock three options. When you reach level 5 in DG, you will get a Hobby Expansion Ticket and be able to choose whether you want to unlock Cooking, Insect Watching or Birdwatching.
You will only be able to unlock one right now, and then another at level 8, and finally the last one at level 11. After that, you will unlock Cat Caring and Dog Caring at level 12, but Cat Caring must be started before Dog Caring. So, that one recommended order in which to unlock each hobby is:
- Fishing (required)
- Gardening (required)
- Cooking
- Insect catch
- Bird-watching
- Cat grooming (mandatory)
- Dog care
Since you already have fishing and gardening, cooking is the next recommended hobby to unlock. Both the fish and the crops you harvest can be used with the cooking hobby to prepare dishes which can give you energy or be sold for quick cash. While there's nothing wrong with unlocking Insect Catching or Birdwatching first, cooking works so well alongside the mandatory unlocks.
From there, Insect trapping is recommended nextbecause you will be able to sell them or display them in your home. Finally, Birdwatching is the last one you should unlock of the threeas it provides the least significant rewards. Afterwards, you will unlock Cat Caring, as it is required before Dog Caring.
As for the order in which to upgrade, this is not as strict as the unlock order, but if you want recommendations Fishing, gardening and cooking should be your top priority when it comes to upgrades. You're likely to do these the most anyway, so naturally they should progress the fastest.
After that, there is no real order that will make much differencebut if you have a pet, it is recommended that you work on upgrading the hobby connected to your cat or dog. With all that said, you don't really need to prioritize specific upgrades because you'll be repeating the hobbies that are most beneficial to you, so the ones you can naturally upgrade first are probably the ones you should upgrade.
