Shanks is the son of Figarland Garling, Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights and the newly appointed Deity of Science and Defense. Like his father, Shanks is also extremely powerful. In fact, it is possible that Shanks is stronger than Garling. He has all three types of Haki, and his control over them is immaculate. So far, none of the characters in One Piece have really tested Shank's strength, and those who tried failed miserably.
