Jujutsu Kaisen has become a global phenomenon in recent years. From the very beginning, Jujutsu Kaisen was a very popular story, but it only reached its peak when it received its highly acclaimed anime adaptation by Studio MAPPA. right now, Jujutsu Kaisenhas two anime seasons and even a couple of movies. In a week, Jujutsu Kaisen will get its third season as well, and it's clear that the franchise will only continue to grow from here on out.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami has officially revealed the power level of the Alien King
Alien King is powerful, and Gege just revealed his power level in JJK Modulo.
Right now, Jujutsu Kaisen's success cannot be underestimated. Recently, it was revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen officially beat one of the big three, and that is Bleach. Jujutsu Kaisen's sales have passed the 150 million mark, while Bleach remains at 130 million at the moment. Right now JJK is on the rise and it will definitely continue to reach even higher numbers.
Jujutsu Kaisen surpasses bleach in manga sales
-
Jujutsu Kaisen has sales of 150 million
-
Bleach has sales of 130 million
The Big Three is a name given by fans to the three most popular shonen series of the 2000s. These series are One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. Each of these series is very popular and has its own very dedicated fan base.
The dominance of the Big Three cannot be understated, and almost all fans hold them on a pedestal when it comes to Shonen manga. That's exactly why it's a surprise for fans to see one of these series being knocked out by a new manga. Jujutsu Kaisen, a 2018 manga, has finally surpassed one of the big three, Bleach.
Since its inception, Bleach has amassed around 130 million sales. Since its end, this issue hasn't moved much, even after it received a new anime adaptation, the Thousand-Year Blood War anime. In the meantime, Jujutsu Kaisen now has over 150 million copies sold, based on the latest estimates. Jujutsu Kaisen sells incredibly well even after the end of the manga, and it is still one of the best selling manga at the moment.
What is more impressive, however, is that Jujutsu Kaisen achieved these insane numbers with only 30 volumes. Meanwhile, Bleach's 130 million accumulated over 74 volumes. This means Jujutsu Kaisen has average sales per volume of 5 million, while Bleach's average per volume is 1.7 million. Jujutsu Kaisen has over double Bleach's average sales per volume, so the gap is even more apparent.
Jujutsu Kaisen beat Bleach, but is unlikely to beat Naruto and One Piece
-
Naruto is 100 million ahead of JJK
-
One Piece is over 400 million ahead
That's true Jujutsu Kaisen beat one of the big three, but at the end of the day it beat the least popular of the bunch. Of the big three, it's always been clear that Bleach is the weakest story. While Bleach only has 130 million sales over 74 volumes, the other two are faring much better.
Naruto has over 250 million sales across 72 volumes. In the meantime, One Piece is the world's best-selling manga of all time, and no other series comes close as it slowly approaches the 600 million mark.
Jujutsu Kaisen could potentially surpass Naruto one day, but the 100 million gap is a lot to cover. The new Jujutsu Kaisen animated projects might be able to make it happen, but it will still be close to impossible to achieve.
However, Jujutsu Kaisen can never surpass One Piece. To surpass One Piece, it would need to more than double its current sales, which is impossible for a manga that has already sold out.
Jujutsu Kaisen was heavily inspired by Bleach
While Jujutsu Kaisen beat Bleach, it's important to remember that without Bleach it might just never have existed. When asked about Gege Akutami's biggest inspirations when creating JJK, he immediately cited Bleach. Fans can definitely see the similarities too. After all, Gege was a huge fan of Bleach growing up.
Say hello to Jujutsu Kaisen's new Gojo Satoru
Gojo died in JJK, but Gege just created a new Gojo in Modulo.
The core premise of JJK takes from Ichigo's story in Bleach, and of course it doesn't even end there. Many character archetypes found in Jujutsu Kaisen were taken from Bleach. Jujutsu Kaisen's most famous technique, Domain Expansion, was also directly inspired by Bleach. Bankai was what gave birth to the domain expansionand without it Jujutsu Kaisen might never have been as popular.
Jujutsu Kaisen has yet to become the most popular new gen manga
Demon Slayer is still 50 million sales ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen is definitely one of the most popular new generation manga out there, but at the moment it's still not number one. The number one biggest new gen manga is none other than Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer has amassed over 220 million sales with just 23 manga volumes. Achieving such a large number with just a few volumes is almost unheard of. This leaves Demon Slayer with an average of 10 million sales per volume – the highest ever.
Fans should also not forget that while Jujutsu Kaisen will definitely get more backlog in the next few years thanks to new animated content, so will Demon Slayer.
Demon Slayer's Infinity Castle trilogy still has two movies in store, part 2 and part 3. These two movies will likely allow Demon Slayer to stay ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen forever.
Of course, Jujutsu Kaisen still has a chance to beat Demon Slayer. In a few years, fans will be able to decide which manga will be the best. But for now, Demon Slayer has the edge.
Jujutsu Kaisen is over, but the sequel called JJK Modulo is very successful
As many fans know, Jujutsu Kaisen reached its conclusion in 2024. This was unfortunate, especially since the story was rushed due to Gege Akutami's health problems. But in 2025, Jujutsu Kaisen returned with a sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Modulo has been running for a couple of months now and its first volume will be released soon. Fans are definitely curious to see how this volume will sellespecially compared to the original Jujutsu Kaisen series.
So far, the signs are definitely positive. On Manga Plus, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo chapter 1 was the most read chapter of the year. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was also the biggest new manga series on the platform. It seems that despite the end of the main story, JJK's dominance is far from over.
Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is featured in Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The series is set 68 years into the future, after the events of the Shinjuku Showdown. The main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 will be released on January 4, 2026. The chapter release time is midnight JST, or 11:00 AM ET (8:00 AM PT). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
