Call of Duty HQ is currently ranked as the second most popular game on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles in weekly US player engagement, while Battlefield 6 is on a slight decline across both platforms by the same measure. Although this trend suggests Battlefield 6 can lose momentum faster than its main rival, the comparison is complicated by the fact that several Call of Duty titles contribute to COD HQs performance, with no reliable way to isolate their individual engagement figures.
Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 out on the market on October 10 and November 14, respectively. On November 19, Electronic Arts announced Battlefield 6 to be the top-selling shooter of 2025. A Next Day report from Circana backed up that claim, noting that EA's title had already become the top-selling US game of the year after just a few weeks.
Battlefield 6's first major controversy was a Call of Duty feature first
Battlefield 6 is finally here, and a special feature seems to be taking a page out of Call of Duty's book, and not in a good way.
Call of Duty HQ retains #2 spot as Battlefield 6 slips to #7 in US activity
A month later, Battlefield 6 believed to have lost significant power. That's according to some new insights from Circana Senior Director Mat Piscatella, who recently shared the company's latest weekly snapshot of the most popular games in the U.S. Circana estimates that Call of Duty HQ is currently the second most played title on both Xbox and PlayStation by active users each week, while Battlefield 6 slipped from sixth to seventh place for the week ending December 13.

While Activision's series looks set to maintain momentum following the launch of Black Ops 7comparisons are complicated by the fact that Call of Duty HQ collects several titles, including free-to-play COD: Warzone. Along with recent reports that suggest so Black Ops 7 launch sales declined significantly in selected markets, Battlefield 6 was still able to maintain its US sales lead at the end of the year. However, its near-term prospects for player engagement seem harder to predict.
Battlefield 6 isn't surpassing Call of Duty's console activity, but it's doing better on Steam
Even if Call of Duty currently leads Battlefield 6 in Circana's player activity rankings on consoles, the trend appears to be reversed on Steam. On December 25, Call of Duty HQ recorded a concurrent Steam peak of 51,017 players, just over half of Battlefield 6is 99,369, according to SteamDB data. Given that the previous figure combines several games, it seems Black Ops 7 still lagging behind Battlefield 6 in user activity on Valve's storefront. Battlefield 6Seventh place in console activity isn't necessarily a sign of trouble, as it still illustrates that even two and a half months after launch, the shooter continues to maintain a healthy base. But even if Black Ops 7 underperforms on its own, the cumulative effect of War zone and the last ones Call of Duty titles mean Battlefield is not yet capable of closing that ecosystem gap.
Battlefield RedSec can make a difference in the future
However, DICE and EA are working on this, as underlined by the late October 2025 launch Battlefield RedSec. A free-to-play battle royale game with progression that carries over into a separate premium multiplayer title, RedSec is that Battlefield 6 What War zone is that Black Ops 7. Upcoming seasonal content, playlist updates, and other tweaks can shift player engagement in either direction, but RedSec positioning EA to more effectively challenge Call of Dutys ecosystem dominance in the short term.
