Complete the summit
The last region on the surface is the Summit, which opens after you defeat Prometheus. Here all the gold and white glory of Olympus is gone. The summit is everything dark colors, twisting tendrils and breathing stone. The enemies here are often small and fast, but there are some larger monsters that can hit hard and temporarily stun Melinoe if they hit.
Now and then, Tail of Typhon will slam into the field, wiping out both Child of Typhon and youif you are in the way. It telegraphs where it falls with a dark, flashing circle, but it can be easy to miss if you're not paying attention or swarmed by enemies.
Also stalking the summit is three new mini-bosses: Typhon's monstrous child, the Spawn of Typhon and Twins of Typhonand his own barbed tail, that Typhon's tail.
Hades 2: How To Beat The Spawn Of Typhon
The Spawn of Typhon is one of the many challenges you'll encounter on Hades 2's Mount Olympus.
What are Typhon's attacks?
You will fight Typhon at the top of the summiton a surprisingly small battlefield. In front of you is only Typhon's head, as he is too large to fit on a more typical battlefield, and perhaps most notable of all: he has no health bar.
Melinoe notes that she cannot sense his life force, and at some point are you coming able to see how much damage the Father of All Monsters has taken, or how much health is left.
Heavier attacks
Typhon's two most dangerous attacks are a bang and a red whip. For his slam attack, he drives his head into the battlefield, and it stuns Melinoe for a few precious seconds. Before this attack, Typhon raises his head a little, and his face and horns begin to sparkle red.
However, there is no long warning period, so act quickly. The effect area is not that big, that is as long as you are not directly under Typhon you are safe from this attack.
The other kicker is Typhoon's Tonguewhich is one long red whip-like attack which covers almost the entire field. Typhon telegraphs it by pulling back and to the side. It's a heavy hitter that will do a lot of damage.
You can avoid it by standing right under Typhon— slam's danger zone — because it's the magical part of the whip that does damage, not Typhon's actual tongue.
Move fast here – avoiding the blasts can risk the whip, or vice versa, if you don't move fast enough.
Minor attacks
For the less dangerous attacks, Typhon will fire projectiles and whirlwinds at Melinoe. For the projectile attack, Typhon calling floating red eyes around his head like a crown and shoots them down on Melinoe.
There are many of them, and they cause harm both when they first hit the ground and a second time when they split up and ricochet, bouncing a second time.
They move quite slowly, but the second blast is harder to track than the first. Move to the farthest corners can keep the majority away from you. Fortunately, they don't hit as hard as some of Typhon's other attacks.
The whirlwinds are familiar! They are much the same as Harpies in Rift of Thessaly and Olympus. They will take up a lot of space, push you around and do some damage. Typhon gives a big roar for this oneand breathes the whirlwinds from his mouth.
What are the environmental risks?
We cannot forget the storm that ravages the summit – periodically, strong winds will buffet the battlefield. This will push the Melinoe to the side if you're standing still, away from the Typon and potentially into other hazards. Running normally against the wind is slowed down, though rush and sprint can make progress. You won't move during attacks either, but once that combo is done you'll likely have to sprint back into position before Melinoe slides away.
And if you're feeling smug, Typhon's Tail – or perhaps one of many – is also back. It will slam into the ground and send out a shock waveas it does when it makes random appearances throughout the summit. It can't be damaged, it pops up to do a hit-and-run or two before disappearing again.
It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it: a growing shadow on the field that only takes two or three seconds to hit. If you remember seeing it throughout the Summit, it will be familiar here.
Call Spawn
Sometimes, Typhon will retreat into the storm, leaving his children to fight Melinoe.
When he retreats, you won't be able to damage or affect Typhon. He spitting red eggs on the field—try to kill as many as you can before they hatch. You have approx ten seconds.
At first, they'll hatch relatively easy monsters, like the one-eyed polyps—but as the fight goes on, the monsters that hatch from the eggs will only become more dangerous. Especially the smaller versions of the Spawn of Typhon miniboss have a power, and have armor which makes it more difficult to send them.
Try to focus the fire on one or two eggs instead of spreading it out, as you probably won't get them all before time runs out, so you might as well get at least one.
Later, you can also see whip-like spines grow out of the floor, take a few turns and disappear. It's also likely that there will be too much going on to really notice. Don't worry: this is more of an annoyance than a threat, like the whirlwinds.
Second phase
After bashing Typhon for a while, Zeus will make a cameo and blast Typhon with lightning bolts – finally the gods are helping Melinoe more directly! This is coming temporarily knock out Typhonleaves him and his odd bulbous tongue vulnerable to attack. Hit him as hard as you can here: he will come just be down for a few seconds.
Everything gets faster here. Typhon's attacks remain the same, but he moves faster, giving you less time to react. The monsters he creates will be stronger. And his slam attack has a greater range.
Although Typhon will appear dead, he has not been truly defeated and will continue to return on subsequent nights, dropping a Void Lens after each battle. This item is needed for the Disintegration of Monstrosity spell, which is necessary to actually defeat Typhon as part of the main story.
To truly defeat Typhon once and for all, you must complete multiple surface and underground racescollect the necessary items for the spells dropped during the boss fights.
What is the best fighting strategy?
First of all, when it comes to defeating Typhon, the choice of weapon should be based on what you are most comfortable with. There are weapons that are better suited for this fight, technically speaking, but ultimately using a weapon you are unfamiliar with will only hinder you in the long run. You'll be much better off and perfectly capable of defeating Typhon with the weapon you've used the most so far.
When it comes to trinkets, it is recommended that you use either Luckier Tooth or Engrave Pinas both can keep Melinoe alive longer thus increasing your longevity in the fight.
For hex, either Moon Water or Phase Shift should be your go-tos, as Moon Water allows you to heal yourself mid-fight, and Phase Shift allows you to slow down the fight and reevaluate if you get stuck in a bad spot.
Finally, when it comes to Boons, it is recommended that you prioritize Hephaestuswhose burst damage can be a significant advantage in this fight, as well as Hestiaso you can continuously use burns to deal additional damage to Typhon.
Typhon doesn't move and is a huge target, so you'll end up wanting to focus on what affects you and how to avoid itand then jump in to deal damage when you can.
If you want an even bigger challenge after your success in defeating Typhon, you can try Typhon's unparalleled boss fight through Rival's Promise in Hades 2. This will change Typhon's fight and add a third phase. However, this is a completely optional battle and is not necessary to complete the main story.
