Silksong developers think there's no point in going to the Game Awards

Hollow Knight: Silksong had the unenviable task of living up to the hype after keeping fans waiting for so long. Although not to the same extent, it's the same dilemma that will face GTA 6 and Half-Life 3 when (and if) they finally launch. However, it seems that Team Cherry put all that time to good use, as Silksong was well received by fans and critics alike.

While the developers may be happy with the overall result, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 is a completely different conversation. We got quite a few firecrackers this year, but as it turns out, even the GOTY nominees think there's no other choice but Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In fact, Team Cherry is so sure of this that it won't be attending the awards ceremony at all.

Along with the likes of Hades 2, Death Stranding 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Silksong was nominated for Game of the Year 2025, but the developers feel there is no point in participating. They are confident that Expedition 33 will win it. Other than that, there still seems to be more Silksong content to work with.

When Bloomberg asked Team Cherry co-founder William Pellen if they were going to LA for the event, his response was a casual, “Maybe not. We're pretty busy.” When asked if they had recorded an acceptance speech in case Silksong won, Pellen added that the result is a foregone conclusion, and Expedition 33 will certainly take it.

I don't think 2025 has a clear GOTY, and that's a good thing

“But Expedition 33!” I know, I hear you.

“This year I think we're safe. I think Expedition 33,” he said. “It's exceptionally and broadly palatable. While we're on that knife's edge, where it appeals to some and upsets others.” It's true, Silksong's difficulty level is something that casual players may find a little off-putting. Expedition 33 is no walk in the park either, but it's certainly nowhere near as difficult as Team Cherry's game.

To be honest, it will be a big surprise to everyone if Clair Obscur Expedition 33 doesn't win it. Maybe Team Cherry has the right idea here.
