Although we have already introduced 26 new Mega Evolutions, Pokemon Legends: ZA will expand the list even more in the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC. Pokemon Legends: ZA has already announced new DLC Megas for Raichu, Chimecho, Baxcalibur and Zeraora, with even more leaked to get new forms. However, one of these leaked new Megas feels like it missed the boat by a mile, and would have been a better fit if it had been released three years ago.
In addition to the new Mega Evolutions confirmed for DLC, there are several others that have been leaked, including:
-
Absol (second form)
-
Staraptor
-
Garchomp (second form)
-
Lucario (second form)
-
Heat run
-
Darkrai
-
Golurk
-
Meowstic
-
Crabominable
-
Golisopod
-
The stomachs
-
Scovillain
-
Glimmer
-
Tatsugiri
It's nice to see more Gen 9 representation among these leaked Megas, as Baxcalibur marked the first Paldea mon to get a Mega. Scovillain, Glimmora, and Tatsugiri are great additions to the Mega series, but it's Glimmora who would have benefited the most from a more powerful form back in Scarlet and Violet.
Pokemon Legends: ZA's leaked Mega Glimmora would have been better in Scarlet and Violet
Although Mega Evolution is not included Pokemon Scarlet and VioletMega Glimmora could certainly have used a Mega form right at the beginning of Gen 9 rather than the end of it. The Rock/Poison critter isn't the most memorable mon native to the Paldea region, and its stats aren't anything to write home about either. Glimmora does have an exclusive ability in the form of Toxic Debris, which scatters Toxic Spikes when hit by a physical move, and an exclusive attack in Mortal Spin, which removes binding effects like Leech Seed and entry hazards like Spikes, but it has never really excelled in battle.
Glimmora is an underwhelming fighter, but has interesting skills
Glimmora's forgettable combat ability just highlights a huge missed opportunity to put a Pokemon with potentially decisive lore on a pedestal in Scarlet and Violet. Glimmora is one of the few animals found in the Area Zero Underdepths, where the Terastal phenomenon originates. Also, their bodies resemble Tera Jewels, and Glimment Crystals are used to make the TM for Tera Blast, showing that there is a clear connection between Pokémon and the Terastal phenomenon that is not fully explained in the game.
The Teal Mask DLC also sees Glimmora spawn near the Crystal Pool in Kitakami, where Terastal Crystals can be found, furthering this connection.
Mega Glimmora could have made Scarlet and Violet's fight against Geeta more intense
While a new Mega Evolution brings Glimmora in Pokemon Legends: ZAs DLC may finally shed some light on the hidden power of these creatures, it comes too late to reverse players' first impressions of it. The most notable part of Glimmora's presence in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the fact that it serves as the ace in Champion Geeta's team. Instead of having a Psuedo-Legendary like Metagross or Dragonite as its ace, Geeta's Glimmora serves as an anticlimactic ending to an overall simple boss fight.
If Glimmora could have Mega Evolved during the fight against Geeta, it would have posed a much bigger threat than it did. It's understandable why Glimmora doesn't Mega Evolve into Scarlet and Violetas the mechanic did not return until the drop off Legends: ZA. However, although Geeta's Glimmora was the only example of a Mega Evolution i Scarlet and Violetit would have made her fight much more memorable and could have served as a hint that Mega Evolution would return for real in Pokemon Legends: ZA three years later.
Geeta terastallises her Glimmora during the champion fight, but it's still weaker than it would be if it Mega Evolved instead.
