For only the second time in franchise history, Call of Duty fans were treated to two installments of the same subseries back to back. The first time this happened was with the reboot Modern warfare fairy tale, with MW3 performs poorly and is trashed by critics upon release. Although its multiplayer eventually won fans over, the campaign was hated from the start, and the response to its setting of zombies in the open world was mixed. Now, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 have released back to back, and while history has repeated itself in terms of the campaign, BO7s other modes have been praised. For lapsed Call of Duty fans looking to return to the series, or those trying to buy a game for a loved one, there will be a tough choice to make between the heavily discounted BO6 and brand new Black Ops 7. However, when comparing the two games side by side, the choice actually becomes a bit easier, as there is a big difference in terms of the amount of content.

Black Ops 7The promotion has been a source of internet memes due to “losing the plot”, as it takes the tripe of recent entries to new heights. Its open levels have proven unpopular, as they are seen as filler, while the single-player experience is awkward due to the absence of bots. Some players with groups to play with have likely had some fun with the bosses, as they offer a change of pace from the usual Cod equitable. But in the end, the campaign is seen as an unworthy successor to BO2 by most, while Black Ops 6 was well received outside of its awkward ending. Before setting War zonethe campaign was exceptional, with fun and varied missions full of spy work as well as the perfect amount of openness in one big Desert Storm mission. Its characters were fairly well written, the Safehouse upgrade was satisfying, and its single player nature allowed for the cutscenes Cod is known for — something BO7 sorely missed. For most players, BO6 is considered to be the much better game in terms of its campaign.
Addressing the endgame in the room
One thing that Black Ops 7 dealing on the campaign front is Endgame, an open-world shooter-like game mode where players complete missions spread across Avalon. The goal is to level up and become strong enough to eventually take out the boss in the center of the map, with players able to extract to maintain their progress. Essentially, the mode is a spin on MWZ, only with fewer Zombies, or DMZ, but without the PvP element. That lack of PvP can turn some of the mode away, but it's a solid casual experience for groups of friends looking for more co-op play after finishing the story. It also gets extra support post-launch via new world events, with one even letting players battle the giant robot from Cod Zombies classic Origins.
If Endgame interests players, that may be enough to overcome the campaign's weak points such as dialogue, storytelling, and “filler” missions between the handcrafts. But if players have no interest in Endgame, or want a traditional single player Cod campaign, Black Ops 6 is a much stronger choice.

In terms of pure content, Black Ops 6 is a clear winner, as it had several seasons to bring back party modes and introduce multiplayer maps. Black Ops 7 has an impressive number of starter maps and a healthy split between original maps and returning classics (somewhat MW3 struggled with early on), but even then BO6 dwarfs it. The same applies to the number of weapons and operators Black Ops 7 has the advantage in making changes requested by the player. Persistent lobbies, toned down SBMM and tamer cosmetics are all big wins in the eyes of fans, while weapon building is a nice quality of life change. If players want a lot of content right away, BO6 is the game for them. But if they can wait for maps, party modes, weapons and rankings to be added over time, BO7 may be preferred. Basically, it comes down to whether players fall for cosmetics, SBMM, and the quantity vs. quality debate, which Black Ops 7 multiplayer has been better received by fans due to its map design and depth — although BO6 has more maps, modes, perks and weapons to offer.
If Black Ops 7pp seasonal content keeps pace with season 1, it will likely have more multiplayer content than BO6 when its support ends.

Just like with multiplayer, Black Ops 7 Zombies are at a disadvantage in terms of the number of weapons, operators and maps. However, it had a partial transfer so players could keep their gobblegums and increase research progress, with everyone BO6 Perk-a-Colas and a majority of Ammo Mods/Field Upgrades are coming over (and the missing ones will be added in future updates). With at least four more round-based maps expected, and several more survival maps confirmed, it is very likely that BO7 Zombies ends up outshining its predecessor. Cursed mode is also a big hit, especially compared to the mixed response to Grief. Still, for those who never played any game, compare a content complete BO6 Zombies to a Zombies mode that has just started its content is night and day. Buy off BO6 gives players 5 full-fledged maps (including modern classics like Shattered Veil and Citadelle Des Morts) that they can play right now compared to just the one in BO7 so far, so for now, BO6 edges out BO7.
Black Ops 7 gets two more survival maps in Season 1 and its first new round-based map, Astra Malorum.
Is Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7 better for Black Friday 2025?
Winner – Black Ops 6
Black Ops 6 edges clearly out BO7 from a quantity perspective, and while multiplayer and Zombies fans may argue BO7 has the edge in terms of quality, those who haven't played either game at this point probably aren't diehards Cod fans. This means they'll be looking for more bang for their buck, and come Black Friday, they're sure to get it Black Ops 6. The game is currently listed for $35 on the PlayStation Store and Battle.net, with physical copies for the same price at retailers like Target and Best Buy. Black Ops 7on the other hand, is still fully priced since it was just released two weeks ago. Gamers may be able to track down some $5 discounts at stores like GameStop, but no big price cuts should be expected for Black Friday — especially with Black Ops 7 sales figures down. At half the price and with all the content it will ever get, as well as a stronger campaign, BO6 is the best move for those looking for a good Black Friday deal.
